How's That New Terra Cotta Army Workin' Out For Ya?

Honestly? It doesnt work for me at all. Even my early wars don't revolve around that many units and I could hardly afford the cost of a duplicate army. I am also a bit of a late game warmonger (artillery ftw) with exceptions ofc, so it makes no difference for me.

You know what might make it more worthwhile? A unique promotion. If there was a powerful promotion given only to units granted by the TCA, it might be more interesting.

While IMO it's not that great a wonder for players, it does get your attention when you see a nearby AI complete it. Having that happen during a close war, when you are already well within enemy territory, can result in total destruction.

Another way to squeeze a little extra out of the TCA is by leaving a few units deliberately un-upgraded. Leaving a single archer around while the rest are bumped up to CB gives you an extra archer that can then be upgraded along with the original. One game I set it up to where I got a warrior, spear, archer, CB, horseman, and scout out of it, without having to do much in the way of special setup. Obviously, you still need to make sure that your finances can take the sudden influx of units.

Okay, I'm thick this afternoon and don't follow.

You don't upgrade an archer to a CB so when you build the TCA you get another archer which can then be upgraded? How is that better than upgrading before completion and getting a CB?

You only get one of each type of unit that already exists in your army from TCA. If you upgraded that archer to a crossbow then you would have two crossbows in your army at the time of building the wonder and thus you would only get one crossbow from TCA. If you leave it un-upgraded then you get an archer and a crossbow from the wonder.
