Huge Europe Map

Here is a Map of Europe I made. It is huge in size, and I felt that it would be too much wasted sea space to include Iceland. I also did not include Northern Scandinavia or Eastern Russia. Only a bit of North Africa appears. Tried to make it accurate, but I did take some liberties concerning resource distrubution for equality, but many of the resources are realistically placed. Give feedback please. First map I've made. Thanks.

It would be great id somebody could tell me how one can post an image of my map. I think it is a good map and would like people to be able to see it before downloading it. Please help, and give feedback.

Nice map, though Ireland and Denmark could use some touch up. You may want to vary the terrain in some places a little bit more, at least to break up the monotony. I'm sure a forest or two wouldn't hurt much. ;)

Worth downloading. Good, accurate map, just needs a little variation, IMHO.

This is not the only way to make screenshots, but it works for me and doesn't require any expensive image editing software.

First I make the map in civedit.

Second I start A new civ game and load my scenario/map, and then retire.

Next, I press [SHIFT] Print-Scrn on my keyboard( this is a default command in mswindows)

After saving the screenshot I open up mspaint and make it a little bigger.

Then I use the simple and free .bmp to .jpg JPEG COMPRESSOR available below to convert the .bmp to a .jpg:

JPEG Compressor 2.0

I then post the .jpg file to my website

and using the html code in the body of a message I include a link to the .jpg file at my website.

Hope that helps. I'm sure there are easier ways but this way is basically free.

Note: You can set up a free webiste at geocities and host your screenshots.

Good MapMaking!!!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will definetly vary the terrain some, I was thinking that a lot of Western Europe and Southern Russia had a bit too much of the same terrain. I'll tune up Denmark and Ireland a bit as well. Maybe work a little on the stratefic resources that I was never entirely satisfied with, and post a new version. Thanks.
Oh yeah, and I'll try to post a pic too.

OK, I made some changes, mostly in accordance with the suggestions made (Worked a bit on Denmark and Ireland, threw in some more forest, changed some grasslands to plains, and randomized bonus grasslands). I also added some rivers, particularly in Poland. I changed the start locations for the Polish and the Spanish because they were both a bit off. I also made the Dutch have European rather than Asian cities (I forgot to change that originally). I also fixed the barbarian names back to the defaults. I was thinking of adding four more civs, but I wasn't sure which ones I could add.

p.s. the v1.01 really makes it look professional, huh?

Cool map Hideyori.
Could you post a full list of the changes made to the basic rules as I've noticed one or two differences in game play and would like to study up before I crush the rest of Europe underfoot. (eg: roads providing a 5x movement multiplier).

I've altered a couple of things to suit my tastes, such as adding islands (Malta and some more Greek islands) and removing the land bridge between Africa and Spain.

I already have Carthage as a civ (pre-PTW) and will probably add them in to North Africa too.

4 and 1/2 out of 5. Excellent work.

Parmenion,
I made only a few rule changes, and are as follows:
-roads to 5x maovement
-changed some civs (made Spanish, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Turkey, Poland, Austria Hungary)
-changed them names of some improvements to make them more European
-changed unit availability (in acordance with the civs I changed, like the Dutch get man-o-war ships)

I think that is all.

Cheers dude.

I like the road movement multiplier a lot, it's loads more realistic now and doesn't take 25 years to get cavalry from one side of Spain to the next.

Have you had any thoughts on doing a revised version with notes from what other people have said?

As I said earlier, I removed the landbridge to Africa and added a few more precious resources in the desert. This has made for a very interesting game as Africa is not only restricted to Spain and the Meditteranean civs now.

I'm thinking of doing my own version of Europe but on a slightly larger scale to include the Middle East (Persia/Babylon). Any tips on where to get good, accurate maps from? Also, how did you get the information for the resource placement, or is it mostly random?

Parmenion,
I already made some of the requested changes in the v.1.01 file, but I can make a new version with some more changes. Some of the resources are random just for balance, but many are in accurate locations. I happen to have a copy of a Rand McNally "Goodes World Atlas" which is really helpfull with map making, as it shows elevation, terrain environments (for placement of plains, grasslands, deserts, foreset, etc.), city locations, and even resource locations (coal, petrol, uranium, iron, cattle, rubber, wine, gold, fisheries). Maybe Rand McNally has a website with this stuff, but I have never found good maps on the net, except NASA photos which are good for getting coastlines right.
