Hey guys, I’m a civ fanatic although I disn’t have the chance to play civ 6 that much untik ome weeks ago because it keeps crashing on my mac. Than I decised to give the switch version a go and I find it a quite good (or at least acceptable) replacement.
I play on deity and while on my mac I used to win like 80-90% of started games (and I had to do that before lend game because of frequent crashes) but now I cannot win any single game! It simply seems impossible to catch up with AI. What happened? Has any major hame changing update been released lately? Or is The switch version that is harder?
I have the imoression that Many things have changed since I last played, like new governments, air strikes less effective (at least that’s what it looks like to me) and units more effective against their counterpart (like pikeman stronger vs knight but way weaker vs musketeer), is that so or is it just an impression?
thank you for your attention guys and good game to everyone!

Not sure if the switch version is the same as PC, but I know on the PC there are more barbarians since NFP. I don't think there were any new governments added recently. The AI was also improved recently on PC, so now it puts up a better fight both with and against air combat. Unless you're coming from quite a ways back, I don't think the anti-cavalry vs melee has changed. All the changes I mentioned were in the last few patches for PC, no clue what the deal is with the switch.

The AI is certainly better than it was a few patches ago, but I suspect what you're finding is that it takes you longer than you used to to overtake the AI in science or culture (or, if you get an early lead, it can now catch up) - in fact I've had games where I never have, but the AI still plays slowly in terms of completing victory objectives; my personal suspicion is that it's hard-coded not to try winning the game before turn 350 on Deity.

If you actually play a full game through rather than restarting once it feels you aren't catching up the way you used to, I suspect you'll find you can still win about as easily as before - all that's really changed in that regard is that the numbers on the victory progress screen bear less relation to the real game state than they used to, so should mostly be ignored other than checking the relative sizes of opposing militaries.

I agree with this. If you were able to consistently win before turn 300 before, you should be able to now as well, even if you feel like you're behind for a while. I posted some analysis from an AI-only deity match over on this thread: https://forums.civfanatics.com/thre...y-good-yet-thread.660221/page-3#post-15828862. The Kongo ended up winning via science around turn 335, but only after seemingly exhausting all other options. They researched the space project techs last and never launched any laser projects. Unlike a human player, their science increased basically linearly throughout the game, rather than going into an exponential growth spurt. Policy and government choices were horrible. The AI puts up a better defensive fight now but is still incompetent at taking multiple walled cities. All the AIs were incapable of capturing cities after steel, even with GDRs and bombers.

It'll take you a while to catch up, sure, but I'd suggest playing a game with Gran Colombia, Maori, Australia or Russia in order to help your odds. Nubia and Inca are also very strong for getting back into things.

Thank you very much guys. Yeah I guess I just have to endure a little bit longer than I did in the last few games. Every time I felt the AI was uncatchable I just gave up...

The game is actually easier now, once you understand all the new mechanics. You will get back to winning after a couple of games.

I really must have a busted version.
The only game so far I've finished since grabbing GS, was an Egypt game on king or emperor that I wasn't going to win.
The superpower on the continent, Gorgo, decided to build 15 giant death robots and conquered half my cities, reduced my capitol
and others to zero and basically stood there laughing in my face, and a few turns after, won the space race.
