I am playing a game where I downloaded a save, so not my usual options.
Usually when my city grows, it add shields of the highest producing square on the same turn, which can sometimes be crucial.
But not, if growing would make the city revolt, i get an entertainer...
I tried a few different thing but nothing in the preference screen seems to work...

Or hit "g" when you are in the city display screen.

and then what?
I did that at first, but still couldnt find the option I needed.
Im starting to think Im an idiot :)

I am not entirely sure what you are asking, but it sounds like you want the governor to give you an entertainer if growing will make the city revolt, and otherwise you want him to give maximum shields.

Setting the governor to "Emphasize Production" and "Manage happiness" will accomplish this to a degree. These two options should be set to "yes" and all others to "no." However, in many cases, the governor will still chose tiles that are food rich.

When I wish to ensure that all new citizens are working the correct tile, I use Ainwood's utility CivAssist. You can set it to notify you every time a city grows. That way you only need to check those specific cities rather than all of them. It is an excellent utility for Micromanaging your cities, and also a big time saver.

No...
When your city grow, if the governor assigns the extra worker to a tile, you get the shields for that tile on the same turn.
For example, suppose you grow in 1 turn, are missing 5 shields, have a production of 3 shields and spare forest, the item will say, finish in 2 turns, but in fact will finish in 1, if your options are set up properly.
Its not a question of automating taks or anything, or minimizing micromanaging.
In fact, I dont want him to manage happiness because that is the problem, instead of putting the worker in the field, he makes it a entertainer thus losing shields for one turn.

Ill see if your advice helps, and come back if I still have problems.

Oh, you want manage happiness turned OFF then. If it is not on...

The only time I know of that the governor makes an entertainer on city growth when "manage happiness" in NOT turned on, is when the cultural border expands on the same time that your city grows. Is that the phenomenon that you are talking about, or is it something else?

YES!!
Mu culture border does grow on the same turn in my situation...
Is there someway to still get my shields??

You are definitely a micromanager! :cooool:

Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to prevent it other than upping the luxury slider on the turn before the city grows. Usually raising it 10 or 20% will do the trick. I have to use this technique often when my first city will grow on the same turn that its borders expand.

Yes I am a micromanager :)
Its kinda weird that this is the first time this happens to me.
I have gotten so used to getting those shields...

Thanks for all the help bradleyfeanor.
