I can't get RTR 6.2 to work

This is very weird. I've downloaded and installed Rome: Total Realism and patched it all the way up to 6.2, with the optional music patch. When I try to open RTW it stops and says that some file doesn't exist, and will not let me play the game.

My normal Rome Total War is patched to the highest patch there is: 1.5 I think.

Any idea why I cannot enjoy this acclaimed mod?

Since I am such a kind person, I went through the trouble of actually searching through the RTR forums again (as I had this problem once, but I actually knew where and how to look before asking in a Civ forum :p) for you people, specifically their Tech Support section (duh).

Now, I provide you this link (for 6.x Gold), if you did not click the earlier Tech Support link (go through for everything else, Platinum) and looked through it yourself. I assure you it's very in-depth and helpful.

Have you tried cleaning everything down to square one? Uninstalling RTW, deleting every trace of it in where you installed it, re-installing RTW 1.0, then installing the patch 1.2, then installing RTR 6.0 (then patches + music, but it doesn't matter much after that point)?

That's the safest way to go. It worked for me, anyway.

That's what I was thinking; good thing the semester's over, now I have time to do that stuff.

I'll let you know what happens.

Do you have the 3CD version of RTR or the DVD version? [edit 4] Not that I doubt your perceptiveness--just making sure is all.

[edit] Note that 6 Gold is already patched up to 6.2 when you install it. It might be the problem.

[edit 2.0] Don't forget to backup your unmodded Data folder if you don't want the hassle of reinstalling again if something goes awry. As a plus, if you get bored with RTR's a lot slower battles, you can go back to the action-packed combat of vanilla RTW by switching the modded Data folder with the vanilla Data folder.

[edit III] Make sure you get RTR 6 Gold at the official website, http://www.totalrealism.net/download. Just making sure.

I have the 3 CD version. But what difference does that make?

Oh. That's a good point. How do I uninstall the 6.2 patch? Or must I reinstall the whole of RTW?

Roger roger.

They use mirrors I think, but I think that's where I got it from.

EDIT: Yep, I have RTR Gold. Can I get away with deleting the Data folder and reinstalling RTR Gold, to get rid of the 6.2 patch?

The 3 CD version installs at version 1.0, while the newer released ones (DVD version, which would include BI) would be patched up to 1.5, if I recall correctly.

The Data folder contains nearly everything from models to textures to scripts from RTW; RTR replaces and adds a lot to these, but a lot of the original handiwork by Creative Assembly remains intact. I'm afraid you have to reinstall, unless you already have a Data folder backup (in which case, you just replace modded Data folder with the vanilla one and reinstall Gold).

Congratulations then. As a last suggestion: don't play the Romans, they're broken, especially with those Legionnaires. ;)

Howso? I've been playing the Romans in my AAR and, other than the fact they're a little easy to play (to be fair, they're the same in the vanilla game), I never noticed any problems :)

I have RTW Gold which comes prepatched. I take it that there no way I can install RTR unless there is a depatcher or something.

That's who I'm playing as now. :( This whole "no new units in a city for like 30 years" is really getting on my nerves.
Rome doesn't have that many units in the first place. The Hastati/Principes/Triarii combo gets replaced with Legionaries/Aquila Legionaries. Of course, the whole "every area gets a different kind of unit trained" makes up for the bland realism.

Exactly. ;)

Try the unofficial-yet-recommended Platinum version.
