Is there anyone who has the skills and time, but not the ideas? Wanna collaborate? I'm a LONG time Civ player (started playing on my Macintosh Powerbook 140 back in 1991) and I love Civ V, but want to add new things to the game. At first, I will just want to make minor modifications, but I possibly want to move onto a major mod that acts as a Civilization V: Call To Power 3 type mod. Anyone think they can help?

I have ideas and some skill. I'm still learning how to mod Civilization V, but I have experience with Lua so it makes it easier. I currently have an idea for a mod called Elevation of War that you can find in the forums, but while I'm at it we can collaborate on some of your ideas too.

You should put a link to your idea in your comment, maybe. :)

I am slowly learning how to mod in Civ5 and I am getting the hang of both XML and LUA.

Minor modifications are depressingly easy once you get the hang of XML in ModBuddy. Even a noob could do it. Nevertheless, I volunteer my services.

I've messed around with files before and have programmed websites back in the day, but since I only have about 2 hours a day of time when I'm actually home, it's tough for me to learn enough about the modding system to do what I'm trying to do.

Minor Mod ideas:
The Natural Wonder improvement mod
A City-State Upgrade Mod
An addition of numerous Civs mod, one that incorporates all the various Civs we've seen (or wanted to see) into a single mod instead of having 7 or 8 stacked on top of one another.

Major Mod Ideas:
Call to Power III...we'd take the tech tree and units from CTP2, add in the religious aspect of Civ IV and all the great aspects of Civ V and create a completely new version of the classic cult Civ game.

In my experience, the best way to get your ideas into use is to tailor them to someone else's goal. People aren't motivated to do all the work for your idea, but if they want to do a project but need ideas, will be very appreciative.

Another option is to coordinate a mod project. If you are willing to do all the organizational stuff and add things into the game, people are willing to help you out as programmers/artists to help the project get completed.

Otherwise, you can just post your idea and see if anyone gets inspired to follow up on it.

Everyone has ideas: not everyone does something to make them real.

That's not true at all. Not everyone has ideas, that's part of the reason why I have a job in the real world, because I have ideas.

Some people want to mod, but can't come up with a really good idea.
I'm willing to put in some modding work, but since I'm inexperienced and unsure how to get it done and have little time, I'm hoping that a modder with spare time follows up on my ideas and helps me make them a reality.

Read the end of modders guide: it is usually the best that the one who has technical skills to do everything on his own is the lead of the mod. He is the one who caries the flag while other members of team come and go. It is especially true about programming, because no one wants to pick up someone else's code. And it can't really be compared to business, because no one get's paid and does what they want :)

So, you must have really exceptional ideas. But people value their work, and idea is easy to spread, people are free to leave and finish things on their own. Most likely, those who did the work will assume to get foremost credit. So the best way to have your idea worked on is to tell that idea everyone! Then interested people will join, and you will find out that you are not the only one with ideas. The mod will inevitably be the team effort.

I understand about having limited time to mod. I work and have a family, but I justify my time spent on the computer as a replacement to watching television. I watch almost zero TV, and when I do sit down to watch TV I suddenly remember why I hate TV. Commercials! Talking about a waste of life - commercials! Hate em!

Yeah, that's why I suggested, if you have ideas, run a project. Learn how to implement mods into something. If you want to create a scenario, start a thread on the scenario and plot things out. If you need graphics, you then try to convince someone to make those graphics. When you include them, they get credit for the graphics. But you do the work for putting them in the game, balancing the units, etc. Basically, ideas in a vacuum are relatively useless, but you don't necessarily need to be able to do everything to get your ideas into a mod.
