OH MY GOD WHY WON'T THE STUPID THING TAKE MY PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what I mean by not a useful post. You need to give us some information. When you say it won't take your picture, what are you using. Do you mean you are not get a screen shot saved or do you mean you cannot get it to post?

So what are the steps and tools involved? The simplest method is to use a tool such as Irfanview. You start it like any program. It comes up and you go to the options and start the capture. Check the hot key to be used for full screen.

Now bring C3C back to the front. Scroll to the location you want in the picture. Hit the hot key, I use control-9. Now Irfanview has the screen shot. Alt tab to it. Select Image and then resize. Here I set it to 1024 as I run at 1440.

Select file and save as, be sure to make it a jpg. Save it where ever you prefer and give it a name. I save to the desktop as I delete them as soon as I post them.

Come to the board and use post reply and use the manage files to attach the screen shot.

does this work??

Ok, my starting position contains 3 incense behind me with a mountain to my side and a river in front of me, so i settled there....
(look at the picture in my last post)

after that i immediately changed my production to a worker and set my science slider to 60 and luxury to 20

the first tech i worked on was pottery because of the low waiting time

You do not want to start a worker at this point. You will need some warriors first. Let the place grow a bit, before making workers or settlers. Your first priority is to get some shields.

You may want to mine the incense first and then a road, unless settling shows a better option.

Drop lux to zero, you do not need it. Drop research to 20 as any more is not going to help. I am not real thrilled with taking Pottery here. You will have so much food and so few shields. It will be hard to get up a granary and you do not need it real bad.

I would look to see who is in the game and what techs they start with and make a selection based on that. Otherwise go for WC or Alpha. Archers can be a big help, if you do not have horses or iron close.

In fact, I would delay IW as I do not want to make Immortals right away at this level in a regular game.

The point is that if you set it to 60% you still need the 40 turn min. If you set it to 20 you still need the same 40 turns. The difference is you put some gold in the bank for those 40 turns.

Once you get enough income to actually lower the research rate, then you increase research budget. When that occurs is a function of your empire. but usually once you have 3 or more towns and some roads up.

You can use the gold you saved to finance keeping the research at 100% a little later, when you would otherwise have to drop the rate.

There is no max research at this point. 100% gets you there the same as 20%. You are just wasting gold.

I did do the slider thing, one of the things i am wondering is, how much of your commerce goes to gpt?? i am starting to figure things out now about how the game really goes.

I did do the slider thing, one of the things i am wondering is, how much of your commerce goes to gpt??
Well, the easy answer is: it depends on your sliders and what you've built. The reality is a bit more complicated. Here's Civecon 101, in a nutshell:
  • Your cities produce commerce.
  • Some is lost to corruption.
  • Some pays for buildings.
  • Some pays for units.
  • Some pays for science.
  • Some pays to make people happy.
  • The rest is your gpt.
Note that this doesn't include trading with other civs. This is just to illustrate the basics of commerce and gpt within your empire.

:agree:

To add to the above, cities generate commerce by the following ways:

  1. Rivers
  2. Roads
  3. Water Tiles
  4. Bonus Resources
  5. Republic/Democracy bonus

Tips from the list:

Build early cities near rivers where possible. Don't forget to road tiles that are being worked early on. A costal city + harbor can be a great commerce city if it is not too corrupted. Switch to Republic early to get a huge boost in commerce. Resources are usually too random to really take advantage of but do use them when possible.
