How do u fight honorable wars in civ3 (i.e. not taking any rep hit)

I have tried so many times to force a civ to declare war on me but it never happens.

This would help with war weariness too:D

One thing you don't want to miss out on is the Universal Suffrage (US) wonder which decreases war weariness in all your cities. US becomes available with Industrialization, and its pretty easy to bag this one because the AI always starts building it as soon as they get the tech. You can beat them to it by prebuilding and rushing a factory first, and make sure all the mined tiles in the city you build it in also have railroads to max your shield produciton.

Failing that build police stations in all your cities and plan for shorter wars.

Or get the most powerful civ to declare war to. It will thereafter try to get the other civ to declare war on the other civ. In that way you will get freinds with the strong one :)

Chancellor Von Bismark:
It is not a dishonor to declare war. It is only a dishonor to promise one thing and do another. Declare war before attacking.

What Bismark is saying is that you do not have to force the AI to declare war on you. Just cancel any exhausted peace treaty in the diplomacy screen. To avoid war weariness, prepare your battles carefully, then smash the enemy and end the war quickly. If you find yourself bogged down in combat, then have your diplomats negotiate a cease-fire, and wait (at least 20 turns) for another opportunity.

sorry but screw a rep hit! i dont play for a popularity contest, im there to kill, maim and rape the other civs back into the stone age. of course i only declare war if there is a resource i need and dont have, a luxury a civ wont share or a civ that tried to bully me and failed miserably. but after the first or second war i get a craving for more war and my thirst for enemy blood cannot be quenched!

honorable war is an oxymoron. it is cold calculating and uncaring. it murders and destroys, its all it knows and understands. unless you're trying to win a UN victory forget the rep hit stuff and go create a little WWIII in your PC.

guess thats why i always build the UN. for the culture and so the others cant have it.

Don't know what level you're playing at, but you could try moving up a level. It's hard to get much much weaker opponents to declare war against you (almost impossible). At higher levels, the opponents will be tougher and more likely to try to get nasty.

It also depends on the civs.... You can count on England declaring war sooner or later, and Babylon and Aztec seem to be looking for wars. Just deny England and China the right to cross your turf, and sooner or later they will get mad and declare war...
I have been at war for 800 years as a democracy, and most remaining cultures are polite or gracious. I left Egypt, Persia, Babylon and India with only one city (in Northern Siberia -- how did they even get there???) and they are furious, even siding with my enemies, trade embargoes, etc. Like I care if Egypt's pop3 city has a trade embargo with me? she can't trade anyway, with no roads and no port ....:D

It depend on the geography, but here a little tip.

As you know you dont need military police in your city under democraty, what you need is fast units like cavalry. So disband all old units ( swordman, spearman. pickman ect..) , disband every units you dont need until your advisor say you are weak compare to them.

Be carefull, keep like i said a nice little stack of fast units ready to counter attack, because if you are weak compare to them, they will declare war on you. You have to know how to wage war with a weak military, like keep only defense on border city, or attack only units on plain or grassland ( no defense bonus ), use artillery, take and capture 2-3 a.i. city then contact them for peace and ask for gold per turn ( they will pay ).

In modern time, i use marine supported by bomber, this prevent me having troop into their cultural border ( war weeariness is minimum).

I hadn't thought about that... but I have no troops in foreigh territory -- While in conquest mode, I sent troops in to take a city, which then becomes home territory... The next conquest is going to be more difficult, though... America is accorss the ocean. Still, if I achieve my goal, three cities for a beachhead, and that on the next turn after landing, then their east coast will my my home territory... and no troops on foreigh soil, but for one turn.
