This is going to be my first time playing against 8 civs. I want to know how to maintain a huge military and be the number 1 science power in the world, I would like to have ICBMs by 1900 like my other games when I play against 4 civs. I am playing as Russia scientific/expansionist. Thanks

What difficulty lvl and map size?

I couldn't help you with eight, but I have won a game against nine civs. Build out fast. Claim as much land as soon as possible, that's a must. As for after that, our strategies probably diverge. I usualy go for more culture as soon as possible. Just keep your neighbors happy so they don't attack during those expanding years. Well, that's my strategy, but using Americans, with barbarians non-existant.

A general tip for playing russians on pangea or contients -
1st build 2 extra scouts.

When I play the Ruskies I get most of the ancient era techs from goodie huts. I trade a few and probably have to reseach 3.

When you go to the next era choose to reseach the tech that takes the least turns (you can always change next turn) as you will be given one of the other two for free (as you are scientific).

Don't build the Great Library as you should have the Science lead out of the Ancient Era and cheap librarys and a free tech should help you keep it.
(Building the G.Lib may also cause a GA)

The massive barbarian uprising will tell you if you have succeed or not (it occurs when the second cív least the Ancient Era)

I usually head strait for military tradition as Cossacks are your UU.
This way you have your UU for the longest time before anything better comes along. Cossacks are the best unit until tanks come along so make the most of them.

I build up my Cossacks while I reseach techs that allow me to build city improvements - Catherals, Universities and Banks.
When ready I trigger my GA by a war and build all those city improvements.
