I need to learn the very basics of modding?

Hey, I've been playing civ for a little while now and would like to try basic modding. I don't know much about modding anything/computers in general.
Basically all I want to do is add a few new civs, leaders, and maps.
I've been looking through a lot of tutorials but all I can find is info on creating the mods themselves. There are plenty of civs in the download database I'd just like to add to the game to play with.
Can someone give me a really simple explanation as to how I'd do that?

I recommend this Tutorial, a set of video demos that take you through How to Create a Mod by creating a new civilization as an example, so I'd say an Ideal place for you to start.
The tutorial videos are a step by step guide on creating the folder structure you need, to editing the XML, to adding art
and best of all you get to see how its done, much easier for a beginner to get a good grasp of the basics.
This Tutorial gets 10 out of 10 from me.

IMO these video demos are the best way to start modding. Maybe you already saw it though because it is a sticky at the top of the modding tutorials subforum.
