I think I may need help...

@Eyeoftiger: you mention you were forking in a great deal of gpt just before the attack with China (117 gpt an a further 64 gpt). I normally trade almost everything I can in a game. What has happened to me, plenty of times, is that an AI who is gratious towards me and is paying me out of the nose for some tech has become cashstrapped. They've started to run at a loss, so there only way to breach the deal is to declare war on me even If we have a RoP agreement. But I wouldn't consider that case a RoP abuse, it's just a very specific situation in which they go bankrupt.

It's not that they hate you or you are actually winning the space victory, it's just that they cannot afford to pay you anymore and they decalre war on you. There is no way as to avoid it. You cannot see it coming either, on one trun they are smiling trading techs, luxuries, gpt and gratious and the very next turn you have three SoD parked right beside your capital.

@Dexters: I ever so slily manipulate the AI against each other. I check every turn or two at Deity the commerce and the diplo screen to check their attitude towards me. If I see they've changed for whatever reason I gift them some gold lump sum just to ward off any possible attack as a preemptive measure, I'm more of a builder and I like winning the SS. Very seldomly do they attack me after the Industrial Age If it isn't my desire. As you mention I annoy the target AI making ridiculous claims and annoying him. Once he/she is mad at me I plant a spy and they declare war on me that same turn. I avoid the rep hit and delay the war weariness some turns.

It's the human players that scare me, not the AI. The AI is very predictable once you get to know it IMHO, whereas humans are ever so cunning and deceitful. :mischief:

I was trading China 64 GPT for Ivory and Spices. He was also giving me 117 GPT for a tech that I sold him. I was forking over 58 GPT for Uraniam and Silks.

Cool. Thanks for the data.

Just my analysis of the trade situation:

The ivory and spices probably cancelled out with the uranium and the silks, and your gpt payment to him at 58 was slightly less than the 64 he was paying you. Plus... he had 117 gpt paid to you also for a tech >.<

That probably explains why he sneak attacked :nuke: He benefited the most by breaking the deal.
