I thought I had an easy win.

Even though I couldn't see the pic, I already knew what it was before opening the save file.

Got derp'd by the AP eh?

This is frequently why I don't completely wipe out people from my own side if I don't have the AP on my side and just vassal them. If I have 2 irrelevant states without the AP religion, then I can take my time to spread it, especially if I command the other two to theocracy first. Once I have enough votes, I spread it to my own vassals, make everyone switched to the needed religion and then derp them back with an AP win of my own.

It's an unfortunate precaution one has to take, but eh... I won't start on the failaxis thing.

Yup :(
I was playing as Mongolia and I took out the other 3 civs on my continent. Saladin was on the other continent; he built the AP and had Hinduism as his state religion. I could not do anything since Hinduism did not spread to any of my cities. I think my problem was poor planning after taking control of my continent, I was still behind in tech when Saladin won the diplomatic victory.

One of your cities must have Hinduism otherwise the AP diplomatic win isn't available as a resolution.

I had something similar happen, only I was lucky enough that my AP opponent didn't have enough votes to win. What happened was I did not have the AP religion in any city. I was currently using the civic vasslage, so I thought I couldn't receive the religion, but somehow it spread to one of my cities! Silly AP cheese. ><

this is the main reason why I disabled diplomatic victories. It's just too weird. You can also abuse it and win 99% of deity games

Theocracy prevents non-state religions from reaching you. What you could try and do is bribe China/Saladin to attack each other, preventing them(effectively) from voting for each other. Obviously you can't now, but you can try to do this in future games when the AP is built. And if you can do it, raze the city with the AP:devil: if it troubles you enough.

So Theocracy allows the spread of other Civ's state religions, even if they aren't my own state religion?

I dunno about that. If you start alongside shaka/monty on a pangea I think rushing to theocracy, building the AP then spending lots of hammers on missionaries is unlikely to work without a defensive war at some stage.

All religions except your state religion will not spread in your cities. For example, if you have Christianity as your state religion, the AI cannot spread Islam to your city.
