I beat Expert Minesweeper.

My quest is finally over!

I've been playing this game since Grade 7.....for 8 years....and had beaten all other levels except Expert.

Yeah me!

And the proof!!

But it was an eight year quest!!!

That's got to be worth something. I'd like to tank my optical mouse....your clicking persision is unmatched. And much better then those DAMN ball mouses that caused me to mis-click and loose SOOOO MANY TIMES!!!!!

But...for a new challenge...I had to find out the next difficulty level in Minesweeper.

What...you say there is none. Maybe not officially....but I calcaluated it. The Level I call Hardest requires a Custom board of 30X24 and 209 mines.

How did I get that??

Glad you asked.

Below is the series of calculations I went through:

First....define what we have.

Beginner = 9x9 / 10 = 8.1
Intermediate = 16x16 / 40 = 6.4
Expert = 30x16 / 99 = 4.85
Harder 30XW / M = R

Other Calculations:
8.1 - 6.4 = 1.7 'Difference from Beg. to Int.
6.4 - 4.85 = 1.55 'Difference from Int. to Exp.
1.7 - 1.55 = .15 'Difference of the differences.
1.55 - .15 = 1.4 'The difference from Int. to Exp. minus the difference of the differences
4.85 - 1.4 = 3.45 'The above subtracted from the Expert ='s gives us R

Since there can only be 30 wide...the height is the only thing that can change. We also know the end result 3.45. Leaving us with the equasion 30XW / M = 3.45
Since the max W can be 24 (game limitation) we will make it that. Thus:
30X24 / M = 3.45
Simple switch the variable:
30x24 = 3.45 X M
So:
720 = 3.45M
Thus:
720 / 3.45 = 3.45M / 3.45
And!:
208.69565217391304347826086956522 = M
and for the purpose of the game:
209 = M
Therefore:
Hardest = 30X24 / 209 = 3.45

And we get the next level in minesweeper.

Hardest. With a playing surface of 30X24 and 209 mines.

Btw you didn't have to unmine the squares. just remember where they are and click on the squares arround. Also use the ctrl+clic not to waste time

I have gotten 1 on beginner and around 250 on expert. BUT....

It's pure luck right? I mean there is no way you can click many times in such a period of time so you must be as lucky as to reveal the whole thing with 2 or 3 clicks. If not please explain me how you do it....

Well, on any level it's also luck... Especially on beginner. But well even in expert, you must be lucky to get most of mines in a quadrant, for instance.

That's true, the fastest games are the ones in which you open up huge fields without mines in the first 2 or 3 clicks.

There are actually cheats for minesweeper:

xyzzy+enter+shift This reveals a tiny white dot in the upper-left corner of the desktop that disappears to tell you if there is a mine on the square the mouse is over.

If you click on a revealed square and hold the mouse button while you push escape, it will freeze the timer.

Well cheating is so sad, I mean others can't really find out you've cheated but you know it for yourself so it's no fun at all.

Mine are 11/77/266, there are times I play the game a lot then there are months I don't play at all. Still when you start playing, it gets addictive again....
