Does anyone know if it would be possible to set this (iAirCombatLimit) value to be different for different domains?

The reason I want to do this is this. I use aircraft extensivley once they are available. In the vanilla game, the planes were almost useless for anything except recon. The fact that they could only deal out 50% damage made them pretty castrated, IMO. So, I quickly found the iAirCombatLimit entry in the XML file and changed it to 100. I have a good reason for this.

Destroying a regiment (or what ever you wish to call a unit) of infantry with an aircraft is a bit unrealistic. I would rather the planes only did the 50% here. However, destroying a ship is a whole other ballpark. A single fighter, when armed properly, can easily sink a ship.

Problem now is my aircraft are way too powerful on land. I managed to conqure (sp?) an entire nation last night with a single Mech Infantry and half a dozen bombers. Granted, Egypt was a fair bit below me on the tech tree, but still, it seemed a bit overpowering. My MI never fired a shot. I just bombed the hell out of every city until all the defenders were gone, then moved in and razed it. Then, by the time my infantry made it to the next city, my bombers had already taken it, so to speak. The reason they were so far below me on tech was the fact that they only had 3 cities. Never could figure out why it did that. Plenty of good land around, but they chose to only build 3 cities.

So, does anyone know or think its possible to set aircraft to do 50% to land units, but 100% to sea?

It would be nice if we could even break it down farther to allow aircraft to deal a certain amount of damage to specific units, like a tank buster could kill armor, but can't kill infantry. I guess that is a little far fetched, though :).

No there is only that one value... Personally what I did was left Fighter at 50%, Bomber i set to 75%, Jetfighter I set to 75%, Stealth Bomber I set to 100%... This way it kinda reflects the advent of new technologies in destruction :P

True, but I still hate that a carrier cannot sink another carrier, or a battleship, or any other ships. Without that ability, naval aviation is religated to recon and nothing else.

I suppose we could set things so aircraft get large bonuses against naval targets. Say something like a 300% bonus vs. ships. Then reduce the air combat strength. This way, aircraft would not do a lot of damage to land units, but might do a great deal more to naval units. Massed aircraft would still be able kill land units, but it might at least help. I think I'll try that later.

We could also reverse this. Aircraft get a large penalty when attacking ground units.

[EDIT] I just looked and Firaxis gave aircraft a -50% vs. Naval units. This is not right. Sure, maybe a ship is harder to hit than 10,000 men on the ground, but a ship can't sustain as much damage as those 10,000 men, either. Seems backwards, doesn't it :D.

Only bombers and stealth bombers get that -50% penalty, not fighters. Thats a good think imo because it makes fighters and carries important. But the AirCombatLimit on ships is silly.
