I don't know if such a thing could be done, but it ought to be that what you are most likely to get out of a hut depends on your civ trait (since each civ has two, it would be 33% with barbarians another poss. or 25% with nothing another poss) This would reflect the civ's ability to get what they want out of tribes they meet (commercial civs can figure out how to get money, scientific civs can deduce foreign techs, etc.)

Expansionist - settler
Militaristic - unit
Scientific - tech
Industrious - map (saves you energy looking around)
Commercial - cash
Religious - random (the gods like you)

I would like to see more things attune to the traits...

That might make logical sense, but it would probably cause me to always play expansionist civs, settlers are soooo valuable in the early game.

Well, Expansionists do get Settlers more often then the others, as well as techs. They can Never get barbarians infact.

That's what is good with the Expansionist trait, except the scouts.

I like not having any idea what I'll get. To have such limited possibilities takes away some of the fun.

I actually think that the scouts are great. They actually let you get to the goody huts in a timely manner, and they are even useful in wars for pillaging etc.
I didn't mean that scouts arn't good, I meant that was the other good thing with expansionist...

I have never played as an expansionist civ and I have never gotten a settler.
I tend to play the Germans and I do get a lot of units and a lot of free techs.

There would be a huge game-balance issue here. Everyone would play expansionists! Expansionists and Scientific would be a killer civ.

Militaristic would suck, conscript units are nearly useless.
Industrious would suck, the maps you get from huts are so small!
Commercial would suck, 25 or 50 gold simply does not make up for a settler, or tech.

This reminds me of the v1.17f (the first one) Valentines Day Patch. In that patch, it was screwed up and you got tons of settlers, and even armies from huts. In one game I got 6 settlers from huts!

Yes it is true, militaristic and industrious would suck. Unless you were militaristic+expansionistic, or ind+exp. Then you would be getting settlers some of the time. As far as everyone playing expansionist, that would be a nice twist, wouldn't it?

And if you don't have expansionism in real life, huts are like barbarian, barbarian, nothing, unit, barbarian, nothing, map, barbarian, barbarian, barbarian, tech...
