Civ 6 seems to have put all units into "chains", from antique units to modern ones. Like Warriors -> Swordsmen -> Musketmen -> Infantry -> Mech Inf.

So, if adding new units, they should ideally go into one of the existing chains or create a new one?

I came up with a few ideas for new chains...

1. Naval "medium" ships; Starting from say, Classical era Trireme -> Frigate or Heavy Frigate (in my opinion a Ship-Of-The-Line would be better suited to the naval ranged class renaissance era unit role) -> Armored Cruiser (industrial era) -> Cruiser (modern era) -> Missile Destroyer/Cruiser (such as the Arleigh Burke-class etc.)
These would be a kind of naval Jack-of-all-trades units, with both melee and ranged attacks, cheaper than heavy units but also not as powerful.

2. Split land melee into Heavy and Light classes;

Light; Warrior -> Light Swordsman (Classical era, Celtic Warrior etc.) -> Men-At-Arms (medieval swordsmen) -> Skirmishers (Jaegers, Grenzers etc. renaissance light musket infantry fighting in open formation) -> Sharpshooters (rifle armed industrial era units, US Civil War & Victorian era etc.) -> Light Infantry (modern era) -> Air Cavalry / Paratroopers / Marines etc. (Atomic and Information Eras)

Heavy; Axeman (heavy warrior?) -> Heavy Swordsman (Roman legion, default swordsman etc.) -> Longswordsman (Zweihänders, Landsknechts etc. Medieval heavy infantry) -> Line Infantry (default musketman, Redcoats etc.) -> Riflemen (industrial era line infantry) -> Great War Infantry -> Infantry -> Mech Infantry

So... Now all we need is some unit graphics, I´m waiting eagerly for the database to fill up. :-D

If someone would like to team up with me to create this type of mod, throw me a message?
