Ideas on the monitor to standby mode?

I've seen just a couple other people note this, but it seems to have gotten worse since the patch. Here's the issue... I start a new game, and I've tried it on several size maps, get all the way to the "done" screen, then my monitor goes to sleep. It then requires a reboot.

Before the patch, I could dump the cache, go to the autosave, and re-load the game. And aside from being slow and some other of the usual minor problems, it played pretty well. I finished a standard map game with 6 AI all the way to 2050, in fact.

Once I had the patch installed, it not only wants to shut down at the beginning, but doesn't like autosaves much, either. Last night it went like this, I swear:

- Set up game to finished, monitor shuts down
- Load from autosave, get to see my character and the toolbars, monitor Zzzz
- Load again, get to see my settler, turn on grid... monitor shuts down.
- One more load, and I get to play!
- Later in the game, maybe 30 turns in, I tried to go back to an autosave... and guess what? Yep... Sleeping monitor.

Any ideas?

Well, since it's likely a hardware issue, what hardware do you have?

Oh, hey... my bad. From memory, this is what I have. (I'll double check when I get home.):

Pentium 4 - 2.80 gh
Windows XP Home
ATI Radeon 9250 (I put this in after I bought Civ IV - It came with an integrated card.)
Integrated sound card
512 MB ram

Your basic Dell Dimension 3000 piece of junk
