If I choose a specific civ, it crashes..

When I choose a specific civilization to play with, my game crashes and goes to the desktop with no error message.

I can play when i pick random option but they always give me the Persians!!!!

Help..I don't want to play the persians forever.

Hi,
I don't know whether this post will help, but I think you may be experiancing a similar problem to me. I have since fixed the problem...so it may prove useful. Please refer to the following post:

Basically, if your video card drivers are old it often won't work properly. Refer to number 8 on the fix list post (near the top...many many posts) and follow the instructions there. Hope it helps!!!
