well, AFAIK in fact Philippines and Indonesia were invaded by Japan largely because of their rich natural resources (primarily oil). I would not like to speculate on historical issues, but who knows maybe America would have invaded South America had they faced lack of rubber in the middle of the war?

-Overpopulated underdeveloped countries would choose despotism, since it allows great exploitation of the population (oh wait... this might be true?)

-Communism would be even better because not only do yoy get to pop rush but you also get better exploitation of the landscape (sort of... we proved this one a bit wrong at least in certain places)

-Republics and Democracies would really mean nothing, since one megalomaniac would still really be in control (and I don't want to hear any of you antibushies sayin 'aint' this so as well'!)
