I'll never vote for these governors.....

I must have no idea how to use the city governors.

In the later stages of a game they go wacko with what they build.

First it was cruise missles, then they switched to marines, then stealth bombers. They would have 10 cities making these SAME units ALL DAY!

So, that's what the governor's menu is for, right?

I set all the prefs to NEVER build any units (defense, offense, artillery, air, you name it) in ANY CITY ever!

Doesn't help. They still build what they want. Only way to stop em' is setting it to wealth.

Is there something on that first governor's menu that should be set a certain way before I flip to the production screen?

Are they as dumb as real life governors?

Am I?

It's a pain.

Those governors, when they are left with nothing to build, suck azz.

In the modern age set to NEVER build any units, they kept on producing privateers, in the modern age!!!

I have used the governor menus to talior these idiot advisors,
but they still shock me sometimes!!!
When I tell my gov'ners to build only city things they attmept to build privateers!

My governers in my first game kept wanting to build bombers, battleships, and fighters, when all the puny french had wear infantry and Frigates!!! I was hogging all the resources and had battlships and Panzers terrorizing calvary and infantry. Battleships attacking caravels are amusing. Yet the computer kept on insisting to build some fighter jets but the enemy obviously hasn't discovered flight yet...

It's not so much governors or what they build that I worry about, it's more the dinky little axe-guys beating the heck out of my veteran musketmen. And having an easier time with the elite ones than with the rest, no less. I just lost half of China that way.

I wanan know how an archer can kill a battleship that is in-port, thats screwy. I don't care if they ARE in-port it's a FREAKEN battle ship! it has anti-aircraft guns on it's deck & a full crew w/ their own side-arms!!!! they coudl take out a few hundred archers by themseleves, and even if they coudln't I doubt the archers could blow the darn thing up!

For one thing, the AA guns are quite useless agauinst infantry. That's why they're AAs and not APs.

As for the rest, I think you're absolutely right. They shouldn't be abl to kill units that are that much further advanced.

And I just noticed that Roman Legionaries are damn near invincible. I just wasted dozens of horsemen trying to take out one of them. Most of the horsemen never even damaged the guy. Very discouraging.

I think it's a waste of time discussing combat between units far apart in thechnology. The player with much superior technology will win a war in the long run anyway.

I've been in the navy, and when you are in port, only a few guys guard the ship, the deck equipment is offline and the crew is out drinking beer...

Help with governers? Don't use 'em. Learn to micromanage. Allows you to react faster abnd beat the AI in tech, wonders, and culture nine out of ten times.

the only way to discipline the mad Governors is to specify "in all cities" under the production 'tab', once you get to govern the governors by pressing 'G' key within the city.

Methinks 'make this default' option is broken....

I let my governors build what they wanted, regardless on my first trial game to learn the new things etc.... Of course it was on Cheiftan. I had over 30 Bombers, 20 Jet Fighters and at least 50 Ships. I upgraded everything, Positioned ships all over in groups, and transported the massive amounts of armor and other units my governors had ordered to be built with my 15 or so transports and started destroying. Fun...

I think the governors, by default, are thinking world domination is the best victory.
