I'm playing a lot of Titan Quest and I don't know why

I mean, it's just another Diablo knockoff in a sea of Diablo knockoffs.

At least Dungeon Siege has slightly different gameplay thanks to all the party members you can walk around with, while the gameplay for TQ is almost an exact duplicate of Diablo, only without the cool cutscenes.

So why am I playing so much of it?

Surely it's a good-looking game, even on slightly slower systems, but that can't be it. Being an older CRPG fan, there are tons of games with bad graphics that sucked up a lot of my time.

I have to admit that the character mechanics are quite interesting (hybrids are the norm and single-class characters are the exception), but that alone doesn't explain my involvement.

Maybe my standards are simply lowering as I get older...

Diablo 2 bored the crap out of me, I stopped after the first cave. I gave not one but two chances because everybody I know loves it. This is same for Blizzards games for me. Everybody loves them, I hate them.

I really like Titan Quest, though it wore on and became repetitive. I got to about Act II, if that. I may just reinstall it and beat it.

I too am playing Titan Quest like there's no tomorrow. I know why I play it: phat lewt

I particularly like the fact that there is no magic find, and the best drops are not bosses, meaning the best way to find items is simply to play the game, going from point a to point b kiling everything. No need for twinked builds with 180%MF or dedicated to Meph/Pindleskin runs :)

I like that aspect also, although it does take some of the joy out of taking down a particularly difficult boss.

I disagree. While I have yet to find an uber-unique (something on par with WF or StormShield in terms of pure pwnage), I have to say that findind a very nice green item, either loot or at a merchant (they're FINALLY useful!) can make your day.

In other words: while D2's loot was all about uber-uniques extremily hard to find, TQ's more about high-end rares - just like D2 pre-expansion actually.

It's just as cool as Diablo if not more (ancient Greece > generic RPG setting), but where it definitely is lacking is in multiplayer. TQ multiplayer is strictly peer-to-peer, which is of course highly vulnerable to hacking.

Of course, since there has been a lot of Diablo clones released over the years, the gameplay is starting to feel a little stale.
