Im searching for singleplayer RPGs

I bought Planescape: Torment for a total of $14 over the web a few months ago. And Fallout 1 & 2 in the same box for $10.

I'd highly recommend both those games too, and they're PRACTICALLY free ;)

There's an old Sierra RPG that's available for free now: Betrayal at Krondor. A google search should locate it.

AD&D Forgotten Realms games - Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, and Pools of Darkness. All but Pools of Darkness can easily be found free on the net, and are among the best RPG's I've ever played.

If you like rogue type games, and some of them have become much more sophisticated, try this link

I would suggest Omega, as it has multiple locations and quests rather than being one long dungeon crawl.

If you want to spend some money, I found Icewind Dale totally addictive, and its sequel is proving to be just as good.

[Rant]
Planescape: Torment is a great game, but it's just too dark and moody. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't want to play it again. Besides, it's set in Planescape, which is a pretty bizarre world...:(

Singleplayer RPG's, eh? Actually I have been disappointed by RPGs for many years and have already switched to strategy games. There just aren't enough RPGs that are enjoyable or even replayable. Games just get more and more graphically delicate (increasing in size) while the plot gets more and more linear. What a waste of disk space!

Seriously though, I remember there was something called RPGMaker 2000 and there were quite a lot of people who made games with it. Some of those free Japanese-style RPGs were quite decent actually. But I think that RPGMaker English translation wasn't authorized by Artdink and the project shut down a long time ago.

There's going to be a new RPGMaker of some kind for the PS2 in 2003, IIRC what I read weeks ago...

Right now, a whole slew of console RPGs had just been released for the PS2, with a few more coming in the remainder of the year. You can check out my console RPG thread below for that. :)

I second the Fallout 1 and 2 games, IMO the best single player RPGs made. Somewhat humorous, but very dark overall.

In a spiritual sort of way, they were the descendants of Wasteland - I never thought a text based game could be so good. Anyone who played knows what I mean. I don't think it would do well at all today, since the graphics are well, they are pitiful in comparison to even the worst games today. But as far as an overall gaming experience, it was the first game that I spent hours and hours playing, without regard to time.

I haven't played it myself, as I don't have the time, but there's a game called Arcanum that uses a similar character generation format to Fallout - but it's set in a magic/tech world.

Yes I have played both Fallouts and they are absolutely great games. I'm a bit disappointed with Fallout 2 however. The game was not ready at the time of publishing so many quests and places that were meant to be included are missing.

I believe all of the Exile seires is free, and some of the Avernum series is too. I played the first Exile, and it was pretty good for a free game. There are about 10 or 12 games offered on this site.
