Clearly, you had to know you have a higher-than-average number of fathers in your target audience for ciV: Gods & Kings. And yet, you still had the audacity to release the game the Tuesday after Father's Day. You couldn't release it a week earlier, or even 2 days earlier. I am appalled and will never again support any of your products (until you release the next thing with Sid Meier, Civ, or VI in its title).:lol:

This is satire of course...except that this year, Father's Day will be celebrated this year not just tomorrow, but also Tuesday evening once the kids are in bed :)

strange day for a release - most people tend to get paid around thursday or friday so i would think friday or saturday is the correct release day?

Games always release on Tuesdays here in the U.S., with very few exceptions. Always. Not a strange release date in the slightest.
Why is it that way? I don't know, but it ain't changing.

Edit: I meant to type Tuesday, not Friday. /facepalm

If games always get released on Fridays, how is a Tuesday release not strange in the slightest?

It's summer. I am not a huge gamer, but even Blizzard has put their recent big releases mid week. If I recall, every big release I can remember fell some time mid week. It is what it is. After all, why not enjoy the game the entire weekend instead of scrambling to purchase it while losing a playable weekend.

I think the practice (Tuesday release in US) goes back to the 1990s when Best Buy (and other game retailers) typically restock their shelves on Tuesday after a Monday shipment. That way the Sunday ads can promote a sale or new items.

I've speculated that another reason is the current 'release day patch' format of many PC games.

Note that many MMOs (WoW and TOR come immediately to mind) hold regularly scheduled server maintenance on Tuesdays. Why Tuesdays? Quite possibly, this is due to intense use over the weekend, and allows for sufficient time to review weekend issues on Monday before downtime.

With the current model of gaming software release states, this could also explain why games are released on Tuesdays.

They promised to release at "late spring", and they've rushed it to make it before June 21th.

it's due to the way sales are released. In America, sales reports are released on mondays, so to show the highest first week sales, you release your game on a tuesday.
