Ok,

More in my troubles of Civ3!!

To enable a NEW unit's img to work in game, do I need to copy the provided img, and paste it into that grid with the pink background??

I am trying to see if I can do something with the images so I can paste a JPG file here as an example:D

Just follow the thread as I will show you 3 diff files of units_32.pcx which of course for this purpose I have converted them into a JPG file.

This is the original units_32.pcx

As you can see from the above post, the last 8 icons are :

Leader : Middle Ages, Industrial, Modern
Army : Middle Ages, Industrial, Modern
Settler : Modern
Workers : Modern

These are hardcoded by the program to be the last 8 icons. No matter what changes you make to this file, the program always assume that the last 8 are these 8 icons.

So, in order to amend the file above, you need to move the last 8 icons forward accordingly base on how many units you have added to Civ3.

As there are obviously limited empty space (box) in the file, you might want to copy the last line to extand the file. Refer the image attached for this process.

As I added 8 new units to my own mod, I move the last 8 icons 8 position forward. As I was at it, I also added two new blank line at the bottom for future expansion:D

After that, you just need to paste the images that are going to represent these new units into the new blank box before the last 8 icons. As I have yet to really bother with messing around with the flc files, my units mainly using combined images from the current units except for the Attack Chopper. For the Chopper I reduce the large image to 32 x 32 and paste it to the last box. As you can see from the image attached below the chopper icon looks ugly due to the palette problem. I have yet to really bother to touch it up but at least it shows up in my build que and I know its the chopper :goodjob:

I hope this three post show you how to add images onto your units_32.pcx files. Last I heard, Gramphos is thinking of automating this process when you use Civ3CopyTool. Still, you will want to learn this process as you might want to put in new images such as the Chopper.

Also, if you want to make flc animations, note that each of the eight directions uses sixteen frames. Given that units have eight animation files, each one containing 128 frames, that means 1024 frames for ONE unit.

And they wasted their time on a privateer when they could have made an A.P.C.
And Man-O-War? The jellyfish has portuguese in it's name for a reason you know. England should have had the S.A.S. instead of paratrooper. But that's just my opinion. :king:

...

I don't think all the animations have 16 frames per direction. I'm pretty sure I ran into some that only had 10. Also, you can reduce the number of frames and the .flc file will still work, so long as each direction has the same number of frames.

For example, for my stormtrooper I quite regularly deleted every other frame in order to speed up the process of changing the colors... I didn't want to to do all 15 frames for each direction so I only did 8. Also, for the fidget .flc I deleted all but one so the stormtrooper doesn't fidget, he just stands there.

You should have called it 'Lemontrooper' the ;)

I messed around with a couple of ini files, thought maybe you'd wanna check 'em out.

2 new units - A.P.C. and Covert Ops (still very shaky)

Voila!

OK... apparently you can't check 'em out...

so if i want to add a new unit in, but all the graphix are from existing units, do i still need to add it to the units_32 file? ie. have 2 copies of the same unit in it? or its only needed if a new graphic is inserted...

Regardless of whether you are using the current icon or a new one you will need to edit the units_32.pcx or else when you get to industrial age your worker/settler's picture will not appear on the build list. It will also mess up your modern icon for leader/army in the city view as Civ3 assume that the last 8 icon will always remain as the last 8 no matter how many units you added to the game. :king:

here, i have some the pic for the attack chooper added to unit_32.pcx

Tell me what i am doing wrong, because whenever i use this .pcx and start a game, as soon as i go to zoom into a city, civ3 crashes w/ illegal operation. But when i use the defualt .pcx, no problem. please help me.

Nope. As long as they remain as the last 8 it is not necessary for them to be in the same row.

And referring to the last post, your error seems to be the leader icon that is wrongly pasted in between first and second row ;)
