Haven't seen this mentioned so I thought I would throw this out.

Not sure if it is a bug or working as intended, but Ranged units on a hill can see/shoot over hill/forest/jungle in adjacent hexes to the 2nd hex away(flat ground) but ranged units on flat ground can't see/shoot at the guy on the hill. As in HhF where H is the location of your ranged unit and F is the target. F can't see H. The little 'h' above can be forest or jungle as long as they are not on a hill too.

This is important for city locations as the AI will bring tons of units, but his ranged units won't be able to attack while you kill off his units.

It is working as intended. Hills give you an advantage by allowing you to fire over forest, hills while units on flat land are "blocked" by closed terrain and hills. You can shoot over mountains too if you are on a hill:D

In general, hills are good city locations because of added production and defense value.

City on hill is extra hammer now for fewer hammers later. With hammers early being much more valuable, it's usually the better choice to found on the hill if all other factors are even but it's seldom the case that they are with each city's placement affecting where you'd found the next one which in turn impacts the next one.

Yes. Cities on hills gains speedy construction plus defense.. more defensive bonus if hill is across the rivers. This is really important in higher levels particularly in emperor level up..

Huh? Are you sure you aren't thinking of the city attack? That one can fire over anything, but I thought ranged units couldn't do this (until artillery, so this should be from the indirect fire promotion, right?).
