I'm new to the Civ forum, though not new to Civ...started playing Civ II about six years ago and wasted way too much of my life playing it. I'm sure many relate.
I just want to say it is a remarkable to find such brilliant, diverse, and polite people here with whom to engage such fascinating conversations. It is also quite amazing the various kinds of ideas and dialog generated by one little game like Civ (the greatest computer game ever made in my humble but correct opinion). I mean, we're talking math, science, civics, history, metallurgy (the current gold thread, ha ha), all kinds of aspects of international culture, diplomacy, and behavior, military history and strategy, and lots lots more. The sheer number of posts and threads here is boggling. It's all very stimulating and a great place to bump into people who seem expert in surprising things I never even considered as a field of knowledge.
And like Civ the game itself, it is a delight to find people from all over the world here with all kinds of culture and perspective. It's a nice feeling to find company with others based on one common passion, and yet with so many directions of thought and knowledge to share from there. It's a great place for ideas that make us think about all kinds of things well outside the realm of a fantasy or simulation game.
So, well met, and my warmest regards to the many fine folk worldwide who have crossed paths rather than swords in this place. This isn't a goodbye, if it's sounding like one. It's a hello.
Cheers,
Doug
