There have been many acts of humble heroism since the morning of the 11th of September 2001. Most of these will go unsung, but these heros and their deeds are not diminished just because their names are not on the lips of a world's public.

There are those who have lived and those who have died. You may know of some personally. If so, and if you feel that it would be appropriate to honour them publicly, please add their names to this thread. Or if you feel you just want to honour a particular group of people with an appropriate comment, like the NY firemen, you are invited to do so here too.

I want to honour the names of the passengers of UA93 who knew of the WTC crashes and who fought their hijackers, sacrificing all to divert their plane from further major destruction. Their story is told here and elsewhere, and the list may be incomplete, but I will name those I know of, one by one, each a hero:

Todd Beamer

Jeremy Glick

Mark Bingham

Thomas Burnett Jnr

Lou Nacke

Donald Greene

Yeah, they did fight very bravely. Who knows how many lives they saved?
They showed the terrorists that the "good guys" are willing to fight till death as well, in order to protect their way of life.

After September 11, 2001... I doubt any passengers will sit idly by and quake with fear as they are hijacked.

If you are hijacked, get a grip, take a breath, and realize your life is forfeit. No weasling or whining or letting a yellow river run down your leg. Then get mad as hell, and violently attack and overwhelm those that dare hijack your plane and life. Act together, and many may survive... and the rest of your life will be a precious bounus.

Some things are worth fighting for... most people will never face a terrorist or hijacker in person, so stand tall and be counted! And at the very least, you may save other lives in the air and on the ground.

Hey, Starlifter ...

Might interest you to know that Mark Bingham, a player on the US Rugby team, was also a gay activist.. (one of those 'pervert queers' you were talking about earlier)

Oh, well... I guess an American hero burns in hell today..

Of course, we *could* try to minimize our differences, work together and all be proud Americans trying to defend our country (quite the concept, huh?)

{That came out pretty harsh..I just couldn't resist the irony....)

Once again, G, you demonstrate true heart and shame many who post here. Many thanks, my friend.

G-man: "Yehi Zihram Baruh"

This is Hebrew? What does this phrase mean? Just curious....

Or is it the name of a person you wish to honor? Who is he (or she)?

I would like to honor the firefighters and emergency workers who put the lives of those in danger and helpless ahead of their own....

"Yehi Zihram Baruh"

It's in Hebrew. It is said to honour men and women that died. It means "their memory will be blessed".

I would like to honor the mayor of New York, Rudy G. This guy has been a beacon of light in our darkest hour.

I think someday he'll be President. That is, if he runs (the best ones usually do not)....

How sad it is that evidently cannot read the English language, much less get your quotes correct.

In fact, you're not even in the right thread, dude... I presume your confused with Allan' and my discussions in the Falwell thread.

LOL, I have never used the term to which you refer, nor talked about anybody "burning in hell", even terrorists, at any time. Those are all drivel, dreamed up in a private fantasy of your own making.

But judging by your posting history, I suppose that's to be expected.

I can't remember where I heard or read it, but i feel that it is apt for this situation.

I don't know who said it, but there's a very similar thing in the bible (just remember that I'm translating from Hebrew so it's probably not written in these exact words):
"He who saves the life of one man, then it is like he saved a world"
Sounds much better in Hebrew...

Those people who fought their hijackers were very brave. I wonder how I would react in such a situation. I guess I would be totaly stunned, filled with disbelief, too confused to do anything. It is a damn shame these good people died in the crash. I would have been so great if they had managed to land the plane and deliver the terrorists to the authorities...

Did they KNOW what had already happened in NYC and DC (via a cellphone call, or someone on a laptop getting the news)?

I would suppose if I KNEW what had already happened, and put two and two together, that I would do the same thing--I would die anyway if they hit a target, so I'd have nothing to lose....

But if I DIDN'T know, then I'd probably assume that these people would land the plane somewhere and start demanding money or something, like hijackers usually do, and so not do anything (like I'm sure what the passengers on the first three planes assumed).

But I don't think anyone will make such an assumption now....

Funny how there's been no mention of the movie "Executive Decision" (I believe that was the name), where terrorists hijacked a plane with the intent to crash it in New York and release a biological bomb.... I wonder if that's where these real terrorists got their idea....

Yes, see the newspaper article linked from the first post in this thread, which includes the note: "Lisa Beamer said her husband called Jefferson on a GTE Airfone at 9:45 a.m., after the passengers aboard his flight had learned that Flight 11 hit the World Trade Center."

Ah, missed that link....

Haven't been around for a while so I would just like to add my heartfelt support for those of you who have been hurt by this awful tragedy. Especially to my American friends I cannot imagine how it must have felt for you all.

What happened last week was a backward step for humanity and I hope that in the coming months and years that the number of dead innocents will be as small as possible.

Thank you. It is often lost in the news that about 20% of those killed in the WTC and Airliners are from 63 other nations, including over 200 (as I recall) from England. Like you said, it is was a sad day for all the world.
