Hello, Sir!
Should Indira Gandhi be in Civ4? I really would prefer her being an actual LEADER a LOT more than Mohandas Gandhi.

I would greatly prefer leaders from older empires to the Republic of India. But that said, if anyone from the independent state should be shown it should be Jawaharlal Nehru.

Isnt he called Mahamata Gandhi?

and yeah i agree-should be a leader not a priest... Asoka was a good choice.

India should have six leaders: Mahatma Gandhi, Asoka, Akbar, Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Chandragupta II. However if I have to choose three, I'd choose the first three - Gandhi, Asoka, Akbar, representing three different periods of Indian history (modern, ancient, late medieval)

I like Gandhi in the game, but I also would like to see Indira Gandhi...Another modern leader + female leader sounds like a good idea.

No, I think Gandhi is a better represenative of the modern India.

I would not pick her, but I would have preferred her to Mahatma. Lenin wouldn't be a suitable leader for Russia for the same reason, nor William Wallace if Scotland was included.

No, Mohandas Gandhi should be reduced to a Great Prophet. Hey, Abu Bakr (the Arab leader in Civ3) went through the same process from Civ3 to Civ4, and, unlike, Mohandas Gandhi, Abu Bakr was an actual LEADER. The same happened to Joan of Arc (although she rose up to a Great General in Warlords). And even if Gandhi was an actual Indian leader, he died within a year of India's independence.

Speaking of that, what leaders from previous civ games have you seen come in Civ4 as Great People? Here's what I've seen.

Abu Bakr (Great Prophet)
Joan of Arc (Great General)
Pachacuti (Great General, reduced from being Incan leader in Civ3)

Indira Gandhi should be in for these reasons.

1 - She's a female leader, and a MUCH better choice than Boudica to me.
2 - I'm sad that there are no Indian female leaders or even any female leader from the 20th century (unless you count British queen Alexandrina Victoria, who died in 1901).
3 - Assuming FDR, de Gaulle, Churchill, Stalin, and Mao are still in, there will only be 6 leaders from the 20th century.
4 - Her background would be a broadcast tower in the middle of Delhi or New Delhi.
5 - Could somebody show me a picture of Indira Gandhi?

Both Nehru and Akbar are definetely better choices, but people think that including de Gaulle was worse than Boudica simply because Boudica is female and therefore got a bit of an excuse. Knowing that a girl won the 2007 National Geographic Bee...

Yet another pointless debate about Gandhi...I mean seriously Are you comparing Gandhi and Abu Bakr???

Gandhi was a spiritual leader and not a religious one, so to make a great soul into just a great prophet will be a huge mistake.

That has to be one of the, if not the, most populaced century as far as rulers go... Though I welcome someone showing me I'm wrong.

In BtS, that's SIX out of FORTY-EIGHT leaders in the game. There are many more ancient leaders than modern ones in the game.

Balancing female leaders is the reason why I think that Indira Gandhi should be in over Nehru and Akbar. The same is true with Wu Chao over Xuan Zong or Tang T'ai Tsung (Taizong to most of you).

Shouldn't leaders be let in by their actual accomplishments instead of their gender? Honestly, this desperation to get female leaders into the game is going a bit overboard, if you ask me.

^ yep thats true. If anyone should be there it should be Akbar.

Exactly. Although I'm sure Indira Gandhi did a lot to help her nation (I have a very small knowledge of her political career) I know for a fact that Mahatma Gandhi was an influential and inspirational spiritual leader, who won his country's independence without the use of violence.

@ RockTheCazbah87: She also did a lot to destroy democratic institutions like independent Judiciary and she even imposed martial law (emergency) during the 70s. She jailed most of the opposing party politicians but did won us the war of 1971 against the Pakis.
