What is the community consensus on industrial parks? Do the benefits outweigh the health hit?

It seems that compared to civ3 they were toned down in civ4 and I don't remember the health penalties being so bad either.

I don't build them too often, but if the city's health cap is still high after a factory/coal plant (not very common) I'll toss one in there. The National Epic city gets one too because obviously the free engineer and two slots are great.

Ironically though it goes up immediately in my National Park city. :p

Not worth exceeding your health cap, but I build them often - I tend to cram the largest possible number of cities into my land and therefore have enough cities that won't reach their health cap regardless of how many :yuck:-causing buildings I have.

Same here.
The guys who came up with the whole environmental concept in the game got it backwards somehow... On a related note - as of now :yuck: not only goes to health-cap, it does also give you global warming. So you don't want too much of that, unless you put it to good use.

The effect on production is negligible and not worth the :yuck: cost (nor the hammer investment in the first place). So the only reason to build one are Engineer slots for GPP production. Sometimes - if i happen to need a late game GE really badly, i will put one in my Ironworks city, to get more slots in one place.

I tend to do it in the small filler cities that I settle to use those last 3-4 tiles of grass or 3-4 hills. They will never be big, so it is unlikely that they will hit the :health: cap, and exactly because they a re small, the increase in prod from the extra enginner is not that trivial there.

Other places that usually get them are my Nat Park city  and my Ironworks city ( yup, :yuck: overflow :p .... supermarkets FtW ;) ).

I find them too polluting, and therefore force me to build other buildings which I do not need (Hospital, Recycling Center).

However, I have found them useful in low pop. cities for production.

I also suppose they are useful if the city has more than a few forests around or are running the Environmentalism civic.

Yeah they're for small cities and national park city. They're not terribly polluting once you get a recycling center, but by then the game's almost over anyway.
