 Per the manual, for Industrious civs "cities with large populations produce extra shields". What is the exact definition of this generic description (e.g. how large and how many extra shields?).

Per the manual, for Commercial civs "cities with large populations produce extra commerce". What is the exact definition of this generic description (e.g. how large and how much extra gold?).

Per the manual, for Commercial civs "levels of corruption are lower". What is the exact definition of this generic description (e.g. how much lower exactly?).

Thanks for the help! Why does it seem like the manual and Civelopedia are much less detailed then they could/should be?

If the city is size 12 or over, it produces 1 more shield/commerce on the city square.

I'm pretty sure its size 12 or over, if I'm wrong someone will correct me though. ;)

1. It was written to correspond to the initial (unpatched) release, so anything corrected by a patch is wrong.

2. It was probably written prior to the final completion of the game, so any last minute revisions got missed.

3. It was written by a bunch of chimpanzees. :)

It's certainly very sloppy in the translation of game mechanics into a description - all the references to "x doubles the effect of y" etc.

I read that commercial trait gives +25% on Optimal city number, but can't tell where.

Industrious metropolises (size 13+) produce an additional bonus shield from the city's base square.

Commercial cities (size 7+) produce an additional bonus gold on the base tile.

SanPellegrino is correct, Commercial civs have a 25% bonus to the OCN.

It tells that in the Manual/Civilopedia. :)

When I played it a city (6-11) gave me 1 extra shield and a metro (12+) gave me 2. Though the city had to already be giving me one.

For commercial and industial, is the additional gold/shields subject to corruption?

Does anyone think that the Egyptians have the best inherent characteristics (Industrial and Religious) of all the civs?

It depends on whether you are playing with culturally linked starting positions. I think the Romans and Greeks are fairly strong defensively and the Persians very strong offensively.

It also depends on whether you are aggresive or peaceful.

But surely playing as the Egypyians will always get you the Pyramids if you put the effort into it. The Pyramids in my oppinion being the greatest force multiplier in the game.

The only problem with the Egyptyans is the early golden age.
Also the imporatance of industriousness seems to wear off as the game progresses.

Commerical civs get 7 commerce on a size 16 city but 8 commerce on a size 17-26 city but only on the center city tile. This commerce is subject to corruption.

I personally think that industrious + commercial with well placed palace and fp are the most powerful end game combinations.
