Your three favorite changes in civ 7

1 - 2 Buildings per tile and Overbuilding. I mostly avoided Civ 6 due to the unpacking of towns. 7s style is much better.

2- Commanders. Ease of movement is really nice. What I really like is that I'm no longer attached to units with promotions so I can kamikaze more. This opens up more tactics.

3 - Legacy Paths. I quite like having early and mid game goals beyond "beeline to X tech/civic"

First would be the Towns/Cities distinction.

Second would be the distinct civic trees.

The third would have to be how districts are handled.
I read the thread title, started typing mine up, only to find you already nailed it. Took the words right out of my mouth!

Three is tough! I love
  1. Towns vs Cities
  2. Civ specific civic trees
  3. Diplomatic influence

Honourable mentions to
  • Being able to raze enemy capitals again!
  • Independent powers
  • No more workers (something I wasn't really sure about)
  • Automatic roads + merchants!
  • Ages - short term goals and break points (a bit more refinement and this might make my top 3 but I would rather we stayed one Civ and then had different cultures to choose from - a subtle chnage sure but might be effective)

Yep! The naval combat and battles for island cities are one of my favourite parts of the new game. Ultimately a human will win, but they are present on the high seas and you can have naval battles with multiple ships.

Yeah and I like that treasure fleets mean that control over the sea and those island cities actually matter.

1) Towns and cities: less micromanagement makes the game more fun! I also like the settlement limit

2) Civ-switching: love getting to change to a new set of abilities and units as time progresses in game. If I’m being destroyed in one aspect, I can pivot to a civ that allows me to play to my strengths. It’s very flexible. Additionally, in spite of the limited amount of civs per age, I haven’t found myself getting bored yet though I do wish there were more

3) Independent people: there are lots of other gameplay changes I like too, but getting to interact with so many different cultures we’ve never before in the series is so cool to me. I also enjoy getting to choose the bonuses. Using influence to interact with IP is smart

Yes having more goals keeps me a lot more focused. I am playing better.

1. Detailed Civilizations. I wasn't a fan of the eras concept on paper. Reason it works at all for me (and it works quite well) is due to how much effort went into them. Always viable unique units, dedicated civic trees, lots of narrative events.
2. Disposable units. I think I would be even happier if commanders didn't exist - they make it too easy to outplay the AI and encourage grinding for the sake of grinding - but just the fact I'm now happy to trade multiple units to take a city is such an improvement.
3. Reduced tedium of micro in general - removal of builders, low maintenance towns, no governors, very importantly; no chopping, and most importantly; no trading 17 iron and 1 luxury resource for 179 gold and 3 gold per turn for the next 30 turns. We are a cleaner resource screen and simplied religion away from a wonderfully well-paced game.

Top 3 changes I like
1. No workers.
2. Incentive to settle mid game and how your new cities can easily catch up.
3. Always play something relevant for the age.

Some changes I don't like:
1. Age soft reset and how much copy paste there is in each age. You basically rebuild everything with the current age version. You have 2 science, 2 culture, 2 happiness, 2 food buildings etc. There isn't much uniqueness to the city gameplay in each age, it's a big missed opportunity there.
2. Too many districts/buildings making every city sprawl way too much. Also, I've never enjoyed the adjacency bonuses mini game. I really don't get what people like about this, was already something I found incredibly boring in civ6. Civ7 requires less effort though.
