Inexplicable error in PTW Mod

I am encountering a strange, stupid and inconceivably annoying error message while trying to play a PTW map I modded using the Civ3ConquestsEdit program. Here is the info on what I did: I took the map called Gaadagoosta Harbor(or how ever you spell it) saved it as Black Forge Bay, and proceeded to add resources, terrain, change the polar wrapping and all sorts of other fluff. I added a modern pirate unit (Orthanc’s really nice one) and followed Colonel Krakens really great tutorial to the letter. Then I saved it and started to play. As soon as I found my first city, I get one of those annoying and really quite useless: “Civ 3 has encountered an error and needs to close message”. Sending error reports hasn’t done me any good. I’m fairly certain that my new unit is the culprit, but whenever I run debug mode, I can create it, sink barbarian ships with it, let it get sunk by barbarian battleships, disband, fortify, move, and explore with it. I am lost for answers as to how an added sea unit is crashing my game when I build my first city:confused:

Ahh yes. Do you run vista? This same exact thing happens to me when I mod units. The new unit will fight, etc. and will appear in DEBUG mode. But when you settle a city, the game crashes.

I had this same problem too, and it was never resolved. I can only think it's some sort of vista problem (stupid vista :hammer2::wallbash::aargh:)

If you run vista that must be it...if you don't then I don't know what the problem is.

If this is related to customizing units, then you could also try the Creation & Customization forum. Maybe someone there knows how to mod units in Vista so that it will work.

Nah I run Civ3 on Xp, the old goodness. If I ever get vista, it will be after they have perfected it. Well thanks for your input, I guess i'll repost this on Creation and customization. well anyways, thanks again, and nice signature:lol:

no problem. hope you find a solution ;)

I haven't done any modding, but I do programming and nothing is as frustrating as when everything looks right but breaks anyway.

Sounds like a typo somewhere. A comma or semicolon is out of place.

Once I spent 4 hours trying to debug something that should have worked (and had worked before) but now it didn't. That is, I took some code that did work, copied and pasted and then reworked it as I needed. Done it before, so this was old hat. However, this time I goofed and it didn't work. I eyeballed the code time and time again and never saw what was different. On the way home, and not thinking about the code, I realized I could just recreate the thing in 10 minutes. Ten minutes vs. four hours. So I did and it worked fine. That might be your answer, too. Just start over.
