Hey guys

I'm quite the demonic person when it comes to fantasy/RPG style content, so I was wondering what happens EXACTLY if you are the first to research infernal pact?

Is it worth the change? I assume you can still build a civilization... just a demonic one. Do you retain traits from your previous civilization? etc?

I normally would read around for this information, but I can't seem to find it (plus the wiki is down).

Sorry to bombard you all with these questions.

Thanks guys (AWESOME MOD btw :))

Al

Once you research Infernal Pact, you have the option to switch civs completely, retaining nothing except techs, to the Infernals. They gain free units every time an evil unit dies but their cities don't grow normally. If you stay with your civ, you get access to the powerful scarifice the weak civic and gain an ally in the infernals.

Quite simply Hyborem is summoned with the Infernal civilization when infernal pact is researched, if you were first to research it you have the option to take control of Hyborem or remain with your current civ.

Hyborem can build a civilization like other civs but fairly differently, his cities ignore food so the pop will not grow but cannot starve either, you must use manes, that you get from evil people dieing, to increase pop.

Hyborem also brings hell terrain to the world and will start with it and it will slowly spread, it cuases a graphical change and in some cases some yeild changes and most of the resources change to a hell alternative aswell.

And if playing as Hyborem you also get the powerful Hyborem hero, however if he is killed then you will also lose all of your traits.

If you decide to become Hyborem and the Infernals then you keep nothing from your previous civ but they still remain in the game controlled by an ai.

You lose control of your previous civilisation and take control of Hyborem instead. You'll get a city (though it's frequently in tundra if there's not a lot of free land left on the map, but that matters less for Hyborem than usual - see below) and a selection of units including Hybo himself - he's powerful, semi-immortal (will be reborn in your capital if he dies, though only once) and generally nasty. If you lose him you lose your traits (or at least you do if that feature's working, I forget if it's in the latest version), which include the Fallow trait - your cities' population never changes due to food effects, so it won't grow by working food tiles, but neither will your citizens ever starve. Whenever evil units die in the world (those which worship the Veil, plus a selection of others) or cities are razed, you get free Manes units, which can be upgraded to various military units or added to your cities to increase population. Also, hell terrain will begin to spread from your lands to neutral areas and those controlled by evil players, and later (depending on the armageddon counter) to neutral players' lands. This is a big bonus for Hybo since his units gain combat bonuses in hell terrain and the burning sands restrict enemy movement.

Infernal cities also get a few free buildings, including obsidian gates - handy for shuttling those manes to your other cities.

's worth noting that you're not forced to switch to Hybo, you can summon him and continue with your old civ if you want. You could alwyas save the game and try him out, too, of course.

Actually, you lose all your traits except the fallow trait. And yes, it is implemented in .30 (it wasn't in .24 or.25, although I'm not sure why since the mechanism hasn't changed since fire)

Sounds way cool lol

Just a quick question, I assume when u play Infernals you still use civics? Does that mean you can play with sacrafice the weak? (sounds powerful seeing as +4 unhealthiness in cities is not an issue if you don't use food).

Thanks

Al

Yes you can use civics, and yes you can use sacrifice the weak.

Yeah you can, but remember that the main benifit of Sacrifice the weak is that it halfs the food reqirements of citizens, letting your population grow faster/higher. The Fallow trait also negates this bonus. You'd still get bonus gold/research, but you wouldn't get faster popuation growth and there is a GPP penalty.

Ahh yes I didn't think about that.

I have one final question. If you research infernal pact, will the demons be on your side or hostile if you do not switch to control the infernals? Also if someone else gets their first, does researching infernal pact ally you with the demons?

Thanks

Al

You'll be allies but it is not like Basium (the angels) where you are in a permenant alliance, you and the infernals are still independant.

Hyborem will like the Veil civ, and especially if you build the infernal grimoire I believe.

But he will run his own race, the biggest factor tying you guys together is you are both gonna be at war with Basium and his team for as long as Basium is alive practically.

I think he gets a diplomatic bonus towards the civ that summons him, but it isn't big enough to guarrantee he will always be your friend. If it suits him to betray you, he will.

And vice versa. If you switch to the Infernals, your old civ may decide to exterminate you. An ironic end by any standards.

Don't get your hopes up, Hyborem generally stays very weak. In a current game of mine he has a single size 76 city and has been a vassal for over 100 turns.

A human controller is another story. The AI is worthless at the needed style: attack, attack, attack, and oh yeah, attack. Betraying your allies is particularly useful; raze evil cities and harvest the souls of the fallen, that sort of thing. It's not a way to go with your first game, but it's fun, and definetly worth a shot.

Just to clarify, Hyborem can be killed once and spawn again.

If you switch to the infernals you get all the techs you previously researched.

Switching to the infernals early on in the game makes you very powerful because you have a strength 12? 14? hero when everyone else has strength 5ish units! But later on most of the land is taken and you don't have a strength advantage so it's not so good switching late.

If you play to get Hyborem into the game and play him yourself, you should probably plan on capturing the civ you brought him in with. And you should probably just aim on science, and almost no military with your starting civ so that Hyborem can come in as early as possible.

I think I will try a game with Hyborem now. :D

My first game when I switched to Hyborem the Mercurians essentially wiped me out with their world spell.

Same here, Hyborem himself killed with worldspell of Basium, no reborn for him:cry: . He was fortified in city with Bone palace AND ring of warding, btw, so magic resistant dont play any role when worldspell is used. Maybe this atleast should be changed.
