Infernal Pact: What happens and is it worth it?

I started a game and brought in Hyborem at turn 170 or so, didn't spawn right next to my original civ, but decently close. I took all units except one longbowman and went for it, captured all three cities that I had. Then continued my conquest into the doviello lands. I have now separated the continent by splitting it in two, my lands in the middle.

Strange thing was, I got no good civs on this map so it's not really representative of a normal ffh game. I think I might have to select my opponents next game.

If you want to play decent Hyborem game, try Nikis's Map. I played couple of interesting games as tebryn->Hyborem games in both 0.25 and 0.30 versions on this map. Almost all AI civs ends good or neutral, so it is really challenging.

My usuall strategy is to destroy my former civ-"settle" on it. Also is good to have some key techs researched before Infernal pact(all techs from former civ goes to Hyborem) like Smelting(for workshops spam) and Priesthood for Ritualists. I also try to build some key wonders before IP, like Great Library, Prophecy of Ragnarok(to get AC high->building Savants). Just before IP is researched I usually declare war on few civs to get my former civ busy and to have nice stream of Manes. You can also disband some high leveled units to make conqest less challenging, but i don't do that(cheating).:satan:

A fun thing to do is to get Octopus Overlords before Ashen Veil. Build the Tower of Complacency in the Ashen Veil holy city, then summon hyborem, and capture it. You now can add manes forever. With the correct civics you can mass specialists for any purpose since there's never any unhappiness (and this is long before liches / archmages with law 3 arrive)!

Don't underestimate the value of No Upkeep civics, like Sacrifice the Weak. No Upkeep is a big, big bonus in a big empire.
