Hey Guys, is the June/July patch fixing the unit maintenance inflation? Or is there a way of stopping those numbers growing? Its really pissing off later in-game that i have to switch my cities production to wealth and try my ass off to squeze in a few units for my civ without being raped by this inflation whilst the AI happy leads with thousands of units. (There may have been an answer to this, plz post the link to that answered thread or just post answers here) Thanks'yall much love (no homo):)

Consider deleting workers later game, (the ones working on the 30th tile your city will likely never use) and traditions Oligarchy is also awesome.

play with Germany or the Ottomans after they release the patch. land unit maintenance will be 25% lower with Germany and naval unit maintenance will be 67% lower with the Ottomans. these 2 civs could be your best best if you have problems with that. but inflation is part of the game so you have to deal with it. delete caravels, delete workers is all i can really say.

A tank is alot more complicated to maintain than a modest wooden spear. That's all I'm going to say.

Aiite thank you guys. I guess ill use autocracy and tradition (not too fond bout wasting 2 of policy slots cause i usually dont run autocracy nor tradition) Yeah I understand that a spear is less complicated then a tank, but is unit maintenance going to keep on rising forever?

I was always wondering: isn't there a minimum number of units that a civ can support for free based on its number of cities and/or social policies?

How many units do you usually have and what difficulty level are you playing on ?

I think, currently, no. With the new June/July patch - Free Speech (Freedom Policy Tree) will provide 8 maintenance free units. (Currently, Free Speech provides a 25% culture cost reduction for new policies)

I'm playing on Prince (i have to go down a difficulty level as i cannot manage a good happyness and a steady economny at a high level) Through out the whole game i was pinned at just having 1 unit per city (i had 6 cities) and 2 workers, and a steady income of 80gp/turn and 20 happyness. I was forced to play passive as if i wanted to build up a small army to conquer a neighbour i started goin -20/turn. I ended up just playin passive and working with my economy until in the modern era i had 40k cash which i splashed on units and just invaded as many people as I could (ignored my economy, was down at -56 per turn i think from + 277 per turn) This unit inflation crap deffo limits u and ur army capablities.
In Civ IV i usually colonised during the Industrial Era (like in real life events ) As soon as I got transports i would send 3-5 transports full of soldiers around the globe whilst leavin about 4-5 units to guard my empire. Worked really great as i had a stable economy AND was able to flank conquer the other side of the world. Cant do it in freaking Civ V as I can just about afford a defending army. >.<

Oh, I dunno.:smoke: I always manage to conquer the entire world, playing at the Emperor level. I don't seem to have gold/inflation problems; the biggest challenge is global happiness. I think your solution may be to conquer a few cities & make them puppets; puppets have a gold-production focus by default. Once you have 10 or so puppets you should be able to afford a decent military with money left over.:)

If you don't have enough gold endgame to support units, you are either not building enough trading posts, building too many buildings in your cities or not building economic buildings. And if you were able to accumulate 40k gold, you have plenty of gpt to be able to buld more units.

Yeah but like say i build a small army (for example 3 marines 1 tank) my econo my from say +30 per turn to like +20. Then after a few turns it goes +19 (without me building anything) and then +18 and so on. What should i do then? (A part from deleting some units cause thats just a waste of time and resources)

Commerce is often better for gold then Tradition if you'd prefer that. Also, consider selling off some buildings that you aren't using. Not every city needs an Armory and a Forge, for instance.

Make sure you're selling off your excess luxuries for gold, this will generate a lot. Try to keep your trade routes to no more then 3-5 roads. If it takes more then 3 road hexes, a Harbor is better if possible.

Try to get your capital population as high as possible too. Every time your capital grows, each of your trade routes gains 0.15 gold. If you have a lot of cities, which you probably do since you're building lots of troops, then that can be a huge boost.

Finally, next patch, gold should be easier to come by. You'll get free gold every time you kill a unit if you fill out the honor tree, 10% more gold in every city that has a temple if you Piety-->Theocracy, +1 gold from each specialist from finishing Commerce,
8 Maintanence free units from Free Speech (this one is directly relevant to your question) +1 Gold from each science building from finishing Rationalism, a lot of the buildings had their gold costs reduced, and some of the wonders now give +gold per turn on top of their old bonuses.

Aiite Thanks hero. Another prob is i dont really knw what buildings to build so i usually just build Market -> Stock Exchange, few happiness and culture buildings, 1 scientific building and 1 military building (usually krepost as i mostly play as Russia). I build them all in all my cities. Same buildings. Is there a thread tht suggests a goood building structure on which buildings to build?

Puppets. Puppets. Puppets.

Over time, puppet some enemy cities and trade post the heck out of them. They'll pay for all your units and more.

If you want to play passive and have no wars, you're going to have to trade post a lot of your own land and prioritize gold creating/multiplier buildings, as well deleting workers when you no longer need them, in addition to picking social policies that help out with either creating income, or reducing costs and also trade your lux away for gpt.

You're also going to have to only build the buildings you really need and try to focus on having a well promoted, but relatively small professional army to defend your lands.

It's much easier to just capture a few enemy cities and puppet them to make them into gold farms.
