Is it just me, or is the in-game tech tree totaly wrong?
It seems that the arrows pointing the way trough the discoveries more often than not shoving the wrong paths to go to get a spesific tech.

As my nick states, I am not at all suprised if it is me who has missed something, but it would be nice to know. -->[pissed]

I dont think it's actully wrong. more so just confusing. and I believe there is more then one way to get some of techs also like prerequist wise. But ya it's really confusing but it's not as confusing as the fold out poster.

Well, according to the arrows, Monotheistism should not require minning, but i think in the game, it actually does.

My understanding was that the prerequisites in CivIV are sufficient but not necessary, and that there are other factors involved that allow you to target a specific item for research. No idea what those are.

I think how it works is that you need one of the arrows, and you need whatever prereq shows up in the top right corner of the tech's box. It may be screwed up but I haven't noticed, I usually try and keep my research fairly balanced. I think it's silly how you can have bronze working before agriculture.

No, it's not screwed up. I just don't think they make clear what you have to look for. Basically you need to meet two requirements to research a tech. You have to have one of the techs that has a line coming into it and, IN ADDITION, if there is a picture in the upper right corner you need to have that tech, as well.

So to get Monotheism, you need both Polytheism (because of the line from poly to mono) and Masonry(because of the little masonry picture in the top right of Mono). You should be able to get to monotheism without mining, though.

I asked this question a while back because I couldn't figure out why if I had poly I was forced to research Masonry before getting Mono. I agree it looks confusing, but I think it would look much more confusing to have all those arrows running all over the screen in two different shades meaning something is mandatory and others are optional.

One of the confusing things is that if you click on Mono when you have none of the prerequisits for it, the computer will automatically select mining as the first tech to research, even though you don't need it.
