.ini?

It'll be in the same directory as your game executable. If you're playing Conquests, it'll be the conquests.ini file. Usually they're plain text, so you can open them in Notepad and tweak them as necessary.

This post breaks down the .ini file.

Sadly, it's not there. I did create one myself to try to force the game to stop using the intro movie, but it still uses the intro movie even though I saved the file as .ini and used the PlayIntro=0 command. Help?

You just need to create the file and make sure it's named properly. conquests.ini for C3C and ptw.ini for PTW. I think VC3 was civilizationiii.ini, but I don't remember.

Whatever is missing from the file, the game will add as defaults.

I'm not at a home computer at the moment, but I should be in about an hour or so. Thanks very much, Turner.

Vista is going to store it somewhere else. Check your user directory. I don't have vista, but you could probably search for it. If you've already started a game, you should be able to find it because the game creates the file when a game is started.

Still nothing and I'm starting to get pissed off (not your fault).
I don't get it. I un-installed the game, for crying out loud. There's no file named "conquests.ini".
There's a shortcut to it, but when I click that it just says that the shortcut's missing.
Please, I really want to edit some things and this is getting ridiculous.

Computer\C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\C3C\Conquests.
Once you're there, just above the list of contained files there should be an icon that says "Compatibility Files". Click on it.

Does C3C mean Civ 3 Complete? I have the Conquests upgrade from Vanilla Civ, so the files are all in C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests, and there is nothing that says "compatability files." :(

You're on Vista?
EDIT: Sorry, obviously you are. But there should be a button that says "Compatibility Files". In fact, I'll show you.

There ya go.

It worked! Thank you!

I had to write the "keepres=1" line into the document myself, so I'm happy that worked out.

Now, if only I can get Civ 3 to open my older saved files....

What is a .ini file? Where can I find one?
Thanks a lot for your time.
If you just install the game and look for the .ini file you won't find it. I didn't when I installed C3C on my new box in Dec '07 (WinXP). You either need to start the game or perhaps save a game before it is created.

I was wanting to put in the Barbarian fix and I couldn't because the file wasn't there yet.
