Welcome Citizens
to the heart of our countries soul: innovation.

This is the department in charge of our innovation.
We are currently working on an discovery that will change possibly change the way we eat! We think it's possible to capture the pigs near our brilliant city Wheelville and to eat them. This will give our city a lot of extra food. We estimate that it will take another 5 periods of time to finish this discovery.

What do you all think about mining?

What are the possible techs to research and how long will it take to research them?

I'd say bronze working. We need axes to stop an invasion if we meet someone else, and we need axes to stop barbs, and this way we can chop some forests. And after we settle in the flood plains, whipping might be the only/best way of production there.

I'd go with either bronze working or pottery. Bronze Working for the reasons dutchfire suggested and pottery because it doesn't take long to research and because our soon-to-be flood plains city is suitable for a lot of cottages and the earlier we start the better.

We'll need mysticism once we're going to settle, to make some :culture:

edit: We have mysticism

Whoopsss, editing that out now :p

Bronze working or pottery, for sure.

BW lets us know where to settle if we don't already have metal. It also lets us adopt slavery which can be a good emergency response to unfriendly neighbors.

Pottery lets us build cottages and granaries. The floodplain site is a perfect place for both. It might be nice to be able to whip that granary which would then pay for itself by regrowing the population faster.

If we were sure our neighbors wouldn't have a blood lust, we could go with pottery first. In a MP game it's a bit of a gamble, and without contact to know who we would face and their relative power, it could be a big gamble. OTOH, neighbors might be awfully far away in which case early BW is probably less efficient.

A less urgent but still pressing need is priesthood. It looks like we'll be needing the happy effects of temples, especially that floodplain city which will grow really fast.

Then it's clear we should be on a track generally towards CoL, after making sure our military is strong enough. If we go resource grabbing with our city placement, the distance component of city maintenance will get to us quickly.

I'd say

bronze working-> if no copper->iron working
-> if copper -> pottery

I agree with dutchfire's suggestion. It sounds like a good and relatively non-risky plan. :)

Pottery will be done in 2 turns. I think we have all the techs we need to expand and defend ourselves for now. So how about Masonry(5 turns) Monotheism(9) and adopt Organized Religion or Priesthood(5) Writing(9) Code of Law(30) and adopt Cast System so we can start applying that Philosophical trait?

If going for Oracle, as I suggested in the other thread, definately the priesthood-writing-CoL line. If not, then I think sailing would be a good choice, for the galleys and trade routes along coasts.

Masonry + Monotheism -> Organized Religion = production bonus (we need production) + missionaries without meditation!

Writing + Alphabet? Would loco be prepared to trade?

Alphabet sounds good right now (20 turns or so to research).

I agree, Alphabet might be the best thing.

I agree, Alphabet is the best choice.

Maybe we could go for the Great Library?
