Year or so ago I used to play Civ5 a lot on Prince level and I liked the game much. Then I put it on shelf for a while. Now I installed it back. So I'm not completelly noob.

I'm just shocked by scientific abilities of AI now. Regardless map size, game pace, difficulty level it always enters medieval era at BC even on Chieftan. I know that AI has some bonuses but it is too weird. It does not have sence!

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I dont think it is normal. BTW, the game was patched by Steam.

Thanks!

hmmm.

when AI enters medieval era I reach just classic one. Being 1 era behind having the same number of cities on chieftan level - I does not look natural.

I played before and have some guts how things have to work.

Note that you don't need all technologies from an era to advance to the next one. For example, you can hit the Classical Era by 2000 BC if you get Philosophy fast enough, but leaving behind lots of antient technologies.

Probably the AI tend to reseach a tech from Classical Era but without getting the ones from their current era.

Check the ''literacy'' rate in the statistics. The value you get is the % of technologies you've research so far (cosidering that you discovered Writing). For example: you're on the lead with 10%, but still on Antient era. If others have entered Classical Era, then you know that they still have technologies from the previous era to research.

That's why I think that you should be able to advance to the next era if you get a number of technologies and one from the next era, so you can get to Classical by around 1000 BC and Medieval in the AD's.

Hope this helps. ;)

In my experience, the AI must accelerate to new eras by following very specific tech paths. Playing on Emperor, I'm usually 1-2 techs behind opponents who ended an era above me centuries before (the periodic 'Most literate people in the world' list will show you how many techs each civ has) - so they rush to get to the next era as soon as possible, while I tend to develop technology across the different tech paths within the same era as needed.
