Does anyone know how to install downloaded unit mod packs into civilization V?
Any help on this would be appreciated :)
Thanks :crazyeye:

I'm a bit new to this, but it works fairly straightforwardly:

1) Go to the mod hub, select "Online", then find the mod you want. Click "download".

2) Along the top bar where you selected "Online" go to "download" (Yes, this is different than the "download" you clicked in step 1.

3) You should see the list of mods you downloaded here. In the last category that shows the size of the mod, click it and it will close.

4) Now, along that same top bar go to "installed".

5) When you come to this section after downloading there will be an "install" button in the lower right corner of the window. Click this.

6) With the mod(s) installed now, you simply click the circle to the right of the mod's description, and this puts a green check mark beside them.

7) When finished click "back". From this screen you must select "single player". For whatever reason if you go to single player without coming here first your mods won't load. When you are done playing and come back to the game, I've found that you must go to the mod section every time thereafter if you want to play with the mods you've enabled. Go to the modscreen (you don't actually have to re-check them), just go there real quick, hit the "back" button and then go to single player. Depending on the size of the mods the game will take a second or two, and then will offer you the choice of "Set up game" or "load game". Take your pick and you're good to go!

Thanks a lot, ill give it a go. 1 more question, what about downloaded unit mod packs from this website? how do I install them into the game? Thanks again :)

No problem.

If you download something from this site or elsewhere, make sure to unzip or unrar it or unwhatever form it is. Once you have it in folder state go to the directory:

User/My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civ 5/MODS and drop it in there. If it is not in folder state, but obtain it with the extension .CIV5suo, follow the same procedure but once the file is in the folder described above go in game and use the procedure from the previous post to install it to your game.

Actually even in folder state you may need to install it from inside the game, it never hurts to check since you have to go there anyway to activate whatever mods you want.

Guys, what are we talking about here?

Are we discussing downloading unit art and putting into a custom in-game?

Or are we discussing downloading a premade unit that usually is just a skeleton unit that needs to be modified anyway?

I don't think there is a single "unit modpack" download that modifies the base game; usually balance is done by individual modders because the units are designed to be put into a specific mod.

Yeah, actually, in looking at that I think I misunderstood what djscotland was asking. I apologize.

At the bottom of that thread the user notes:

Note :
Please put the folder "Common" to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\resource\Common\
and replace the files.

The stuff about the "Common" folder is just a small fix for some of the animations, he's going to need to do a lot more to get those units working.

djscotland,
Consider most of the unit packs a modder's resource.

Try using R.E.D. Unofficial, linked in my sig.

Thanks Nutty. So you would recommend the unofficial ones as opposed to the official ones?

Thanks again :)

Well, it's newer and has more of the units you mentioned you wanted to add, and I was the one who put it together. So... yeah.

If you want to add new units types beyond vanilla's, you'll need to look at one of the total conversion mods, or maybe a WWII-scenario mod.

djscotland, do you want to know how to implement the mods into your own mod? Without using someone else's?
