Hi guys,

my laptop and civ4 dvd are both old. The dvd is scratched and my dvd drive is slowly breaking down.

Because of this I always have trouble launching games from the dvd. I copied an image of the dvd to an iso file, mounted the iso file in a windows 8 virtual drive and installed civ4 beyond the sword from that. But when launching the game it always requests that I insert the dvd.

Is there a way to navigate this problem? Any help would be much appreciated guys, I am desperate because I want to play my games but the way things are at the moment everything is so frustrating.

I honestly can't remember, but I think it's just an exe, which you you need to execute and then it does everything for you. At some point I struck gold and found a store, which sold civ3+4+expansions (Colonization included) and since they considered themselves stuck with an old unsellable game, they sold it for 2/3 of the price steam has for colonization alone. I decided it was time for a backup disc and it turned out that this collection comes prepatched. In other words I haven't had to patch manually in ages.

If you end up having to buy the game again, I will recommend GOG rather than steam. The reason is that steam's DRM software can be... annoying when it comes to modding and in some cases just playing mods. The disc version should be completely DRM free, at least when patched.
