Install Error

I tried searching the site, but that Google Search is horrendous.

the problem I have is this:

I had the game installed and it ran fine, since release. Yesterday, when I tried to load it up, it would error out, with the windows message "this program needs to be closed."

I uninstalled the game, and tried to re-install. It gets to about the same point everytime on Disc 2, towards the end of the .mp3 files and gives me the following error:

Feature Transfer Error
Feature: DefaultFeature
Component: Civ4Component
File: S:\data3.cab
Error: Incorrect Function.

What I've tried:

New discs.
Installing in Safe Mode
Going into my Installshield cache files, and removing them.
Removing all references of Civ4 from the registry.

Any ideas?

It was working fine then it went it became FUBAR.

If the game is installed, including that civ iv folder it puts in the user profile, then try going back a week earlier to when CIV was running fine.

Use system restore. (here it comes I can feel the heat from the flames).

Find a restore point that you know the game worked and restore from there.

Any other programs that you installed after that will go bye bye and have to

be re-installed tho.

If that doesnt work, then come back with a dxdiag info file.

The program's already been uninstalled, so a rollback wont work, I think.

And it's an install issue, not a play issue, but as requested, dxdiag is attached. thanks

Restoring the computer will load the program back before it was FUBAR.

Find a restore point when you know the game was installed and working properly and use it.

You can always undo it.

what did you have running when u did the dxdiag?

Its like at 600 plus page file useage.

ok, been wanting to format the computer for a while now, so went ahead and did that yesterday. Installed the Windows Updates, directx9.0c, etc.

On install, it still gives me the same error as in the first post. This is on a practically pristine computer.

Any ideas?

Find a different machine and try and run it on that?

If it does not run take it back and get a new one.
