Installation/Patching Issues

After installing CIV Vanilla onto my new laptop, I tried to install BTS, but it gave me an error, saying that the latest patch (version 1.74) couldn't be downloaded, and the installation was aborted. So I tried to use the ingame patcher, but it too said the patch could not successfully be downloaded. So then I tried manually patching it, but I got an error that said: "The setup has detected that version 1.09.000 of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is already installed. This setup is not compatible with this version. You will have to uninstall the previous version before installing this version."

My laptop does have Windows Vista, but my desktop running Vista never had this issue, so I'm not sure that's the problem. I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling and running as an administrator and in XP compatibility mode.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I think you are going to have to fiddle with your registry, as well as removing any installshield files in your Appdata folder.

I can't give any advice on registry fiddling, sorry. :(

Actually, it turns out that I had to install the 1.61 patch before I could install 1.74. Nice work, Firaxis.
