Intelligence service

One thing about placing spies, if you get caught the first time, don't try to place any more that turn. I think you'll ALWAYS get caught. Try again the next time around.

i think it is time for a military advisor patch. if the computer miscalculates relative strengths, that really screwes up diplomacy.

You mean like, say, Saddam Hussein :crazyeyes? It's interesting how recent events show poor military advisors and some "odd" combat results to be not so unrealistic...

I guess when the AI underestimates your military might, you just have to cause them to have fewer military units than yourself :D :hammer:

Yea, a military advisor patch. Read the threads on different forums. It is time for a LOT of patches.

Espionage??

First you have to spend your time and money building the espionage advance.

Then you have to spend more building the Intelligence Agency Small Wonder.

Then you have to spend still more ATTEMPTING to plant a spy; if caught you have an international incident.

After all that, you have gained nothing except a hole in your treasury, and one less useful advance.

You then have the privelege of attempting to use that spy for something - and to do so at an EXORBITANT cost. Again, if caught (a real good chance) the money is down the drain and there's an incident. You can't even use the spy for propaganda against Democracies, the most common government when Espionage is available.

Espionage is not cost-effective. Go build yourself a more useful advance and a better wonder along with a whole bunch of tanks instead.

PATCH: Make espionage much less costly with less of a chance of failure. I once went twelve times in a row (in different games) trying to expose a mole at the "Safe" level and every time MY spy was caught!! No thanks, Sid.

The prices for spying are just plain stupid. All my treasure to see their world map? It's easier to call their leader and play the "I'll show mine if you show yours" game :D .
Never hear to the military advisor. He thinks you must build a thousand warriors to have a strong military.
Planting a spy is good, however, since it's cheap and gives you the total number of each kind of unit the enemy has.
And if they declare war, good, less war weariness. I like to trade blows with my neighbours.

The costs for spying are absurd. I think Sid mistakenly put one zero too many in those numbers!! :D
