Interesting info from the gamespot preview

Well, I don't know, maybe indeed Ninakoru is a computer genius and Firaxis don't have competent programmers to do it,

but in this case they just should kindly ask him for permission to use his work and I suppose he wouldn't refuse ;)

I'm not sure using the work* of modders for free (even with permission) in a paid game is necessarily something Firaxis wants to do. Maybe there's nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't seem quite right.

* by work, I mean the mods they spent time making - design concepts is a different issue that's not being discussed here.

It's even better, Gazebo and Ilteroi implemented this and much more, in their spare time and for free. So, stealth, just accept that you don't know what you are talking about, because there are clear examples of how it can easily be done, which tends to prove that FXS just didn't care to fix the more blatant remaining bugs.

I can show you the few lines of code that were needed (and some intelligence, granted) to make the AI move and shoot... the message is clear. Not having that in vanilla civ5 is either lack of intelligence or laziness. Neither is a good trait to have as a game developer.

I don't see any clear examples of how this could be done. I don't see the source code, for example.

And yes, it's possible what modders found some simple and elegant solution which worked for this particular situation. Such things happen sometimes. But even if it's so, this case doesn't negate the fact what tactical AI is a task from one of the most complex computer science areas.
