Is it possible for me to be running a LAN game at my house playing CIV4 and have some friends who cannot come to the LAN connect via the internet and play? Has anyone ever done this? If so is there anything I need to setup that is different?

Thank you for your time!

If you run a pitboss game you can connect to that internally and externally. Just connect to the IP address of the pc running the game. I have done this when I ran a pitboss game. I could connect from any pc in my house using either the external IP address and port forwarding on the router or the internal ip address. Others access piboss as normal. I used DynDNS so that I did not have to give out my IP address and so that it automatically adjusted when my ISP changed my IP address.
Set it up and chack it out in advance both to make sure you can get it to work and so that you're not wasting valuable game time setting it up.

Thank you very much! I set it up and it worked over LAN...now I need to get someone to test over the net at the same time.

It was tricky finding Pitboss. I use Steam and I had to go through the steam folders in the C:\ drive and locate it there. Made a shortcut to the desktop and voila!

Thank you again!

Ok,so I tried. I did the following port forwards on my WNR200v2 router:

* 6667 (IRC)
* 2033 (Civ4)
* 2056 (Civ4)
* 47624 (Directplay)
* 3783 (Voice Chat Port)
* 27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
* 28900 (Master Server List Request)
* 29900 (GP Connection Manager)
* 29901 (GP Search Manager)
* 13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
* 6500 (Query Port)
* 6515 (Dplay UDP)
* 2300-2400 (DirectPlay - UDP)

Am I missing anything?

I can connect to my home PC to my home laptop on my home network. I tried letting a buddy join a PITBOSS game that I had connected to with my laptop. Pitboss was running on my PC. He kept timing out.

Thank you again for any help you guys can offer.

Update....got my buddy to connect over the Internet. I had set the ports a couple days ago to forward from a different IP address than what my PC was now. I changed that and it worked.

Ok, so I have been reading about multiple clients from inside the network connecting to the Pitboss server and that they need to run through different ports besides 2056. When I look in the Civilization4.ini I find a

NETCOMM PORT set at 2056. Is that what I change to 2057(while also opening 2057 on my router)?

If I have multiple PCs inside the LAN connecting to my Pitboss server, do I need to open a different port for each of them? Example 2057 for PC#1 and 2058 for PC#2?
