I am playing the scenarios from Conquests, and am stuck in the tutorial

I am playing as random (got Portugal two times though), and I can't seem to get going. My ally, the Netherlands doesn't seem to be willing to trade with me, and his combat strategy is rather bad (attacking over rivers into mountains etc.).

So, I have to take matters into my own hands, and can defend well enough, but as soon as I start an attack, I get cut off by both german and byzantine forces and can't seem to break through. It gets worse further into the game, when the germans special knights and byzantines fireboats come into play.

So, I need some suggestions or hints to beat this level, I am playing on reagent btw, which for me is the most difficult I want to go as it is quite challenging I think. I am not interested in lowering the difficulty though.

Never tried this one. Sorry, can't help you on this. But:

Why bother? Try the "real" scenarios. If you play regent you should know the basics. Go for Mesopotamia or Rise of Rome first.

:)

Hmm, not exactly what I was looking for...

This IS a real scenario, with special rules and objectives, just because it's called Intro 3 doesn't make it less challenging.

So has anyone actually played this and can give a few suggestions?

I never played those scenarios, but I bet that if you search the forum back far enough in time, you will find some threads on each one.

It is an AP game so you need to act accordingly. IOW every thing goes faster. You can make workers/settlers and units much faster.

i've played it too, on a difficulty level lower than i usually play, and i can NOT make it work as portugal. no matter what i do, the war starts going badly and i can't maintain my own borders. i dont know what it is.

sorry i know that didnt help, but misery loves company.

I played this for 20 turns now, Deity level, and I am in control. I am playing the Dutch, they seem to be the most powerful.

I was able to trade Feudalism for Engineering which gives me all I need for the early game. I then shut off research (min research actually), I think building the Great Library should be feasible at a later date since the AI does not like building wonders when at war.

I micromanaged every city every turn, important builds were (short-)rushed with cash. First every city built 1-2 workers. I sent an initial worker to the iron immediately but was able to squeeze out some warriors before this. Captured Koningsberg facing archers and spearmen/pikemen with the resulting MI and Swiss Inf. support. Also sent Swiss Infantry on pillaging missions. Back cities produce settlers front cities military (=trebs/MI).

Result after 20 turns= I am as big as Germany and Byzantines combined. Germany has archers against my trebs/MI/SI, a blowout. Portuguese have managed to keep the Byzantines in check. Looking good.

Own- Did you just meet the AI, they might have been building it for a while?

I think they build wonders but it seems they prioritize them left. Other factors might be at work as well.

After 20 turns or so no wonders had been started even though a lot were available. When playing regular games the earliest wonders are started almost immediately (on the upper levels at least).
