It happened to me some days ago.
I was running out of free space on my hard disk, and I also had set autosaves each 1 turn.
At some point, the game started running extremely slow, so I decided to save and quit.
When I restarted my pc and reloaded the save, the game quits with an error (a windows popup saying something like "an error as occurred", memory addresses, etc).
After some retries, and some time trying to figure it up, I discovered that the save game, as well as the last autosaves, were corrupted due to the missing disk space. By loading the autosave of 5 turns before (the last valid savegame), the game loaded correctly and (after freeing some space on the hard disk and resaving) everything went fine.
The problem is: the game SHOULD give an alert to the player, informing him that the game has NOT been correctly saved!
