Anyone picked this up? Im having a blast so far. Its a sort of mix between XCOM and a rogue like, but with the absence of any RNG. So all attacks will hit (this works both ways), all hacks will work, and every mission has a time limiting factor in the form of "it will get harder thee longer the mission goes on". In effect, this means that the game boils down to a carefully orchestrated game of chess. And it is really rather good i think. It also has a decent story, and some very good voice acting. Its also tough going. So not for the feint of heart. But very rewarding as a result.

I picked it up during when it was on sale a few weeks ago.
It just recently moved from my steam shame to active library but I haven't beaten it yet. What I love most so far is that seems very fair and has a lot of custom difficulty options.

Yes - i think one of the gripes everyone sometimes has with games like XCOM, Darkest dungeon etc. Is that the RNG is sometimes just against you. Here though that is not actually a problem. And everything is customizable, theres little to no fake difficulty (when the game doesnt tell you whats actually going to happen). Its pretty good i think.

I got the game awhile back and played the heck out of it. It has a very nice aesthetic and good gameplay. Without the RNG factor, there is a lot more tactics and decision-making each turn. There is also a lot of tension as the alarm goes up. It really puts pressure on the player to complete the objective as quickly as possible. The downside is that since the map is unknown, there is a chance that your agents get "lost" and you run out of time to complete the objective. I have had missions where I accidentally went the long way around and the alarm just got too high for me to get to the objective and get out. It can be quite thrilling when your agents are completely surrounded yet you find the perfect combo to outmaneuver everyone and get your agents out safely.

Im still having fun with this. With the contingency plan DLC theres a lot more variety on offer. Its fast becoming one of my favourite rogue likes. If you like games like FTL then its almost perfect. And the various agents on offer create a lot of diversity. Not sure on which are my strongest ones yet (ive not played all of them). Internationale is good, but i think her remote hacking ability is not that OP and also a bit over rated. I think Draco can be one of the most powerful agents in the game. His ability to scan dead corps means you can get a super agent pretty early particularly if you farm for them, as he is only limited by charge pack reloads for his weapon. Derek has a pretty nifty ability, and he is pretty damned useful when you have to sit around and wait for something and then teleport out afterwards. Nika can also save your bacon with her multiple KO ability. With the right augments and gear she can be almost unstoppable even for high end enemies. The most lacklustre is probably Decker with his identify Daemon ability. But he does come with good gear.

Im a bit unsure about whats best in terms of loadouts though. I cant work out whether its best to get the IVs of the weapons or whether its best to stick with the IIIs. The IIIs give you unlimited use, but the IVs take out high armour enemies and are single use. The way i approach maps tends to mean that the IIIs suit my playstyle better (2 groups of 2 - one with killing weapons and the other stunning). I guess in an ideal world i would give the IVs to the killer and the IIIs to the stunners. But a lot of it depends on what you pick up in game and also whats available from fabricators and/or monst3r.
