Long time lurker, First time poster here so gimme a break.
My cities get attacked by invisible soldiers for starters, and they allways smash my cities no matter the defense and the attacker.
When units fight the screen changes to an extreme close up of the surrounding terrain and only returns to the normal view after the engagement.
My cities have been attacked by units on the entire other side of the globe, the units appear on one side of the globe and the "Float" half way around the world and attack my cities, this means that units anywhere in the world can instantly cross ocean mountain and endless terrain to attack my cities. Very disturbing especially when archers on the other side of the globe smash your dozen or so fully fortified mechanized infantry and destroy your city.
finally last night one of my workers just started floating off the side of the map. I pushed my map cursor and followed the unit to the right to see where it was going and it kept floating away, eventually it completely cirumnavigated the globe!! then the game froze and completely locked up my computer. No ctrl-alt-del worked, not even computer restart. eventually I unplugged the machine from the powerboard.
Please understand my situation when I say this next statement. I'm an Australian living in Fiji. the opportunity for me to get a new game comes about once a year! I have a top of the line Raedeon video card. In Fiji internet access costs $5 per hour!! that's ontop of the home connection rate and you have to pay a minimum of $500 a month for internet for a whopping 100 MB per month dowload cap!!! So downloading patches is not a viable option for me. It just aint gonna happen for me.
My statement is this, I played the other CIV games religiously, I usually played for upto 8 hours a day at least. Even up till the day before I got CIV IV.
I've logged about 50 hours so far on the new game but last night I took the game out of my DVD drive and threw it against the wall. took the pieces and smashed them again. Firaxis has forever lost my business for this atrocity.

Neat; wish I had some.

Bah, you just need to learn how to defend a city..

This is supposed to be a bad thing, I'm sure, but I just don't see it. Besides, I believe you can disable that in the options.. did you look there?

They aren't coming from half way around the globe, just from the other side of a zero-line. It's a known bug; ignore the animation and pay more attention to units closing in on your cities.

Patch forthcoming.. (I hope!)

Understood that you are a Fijiian Australian. :mischief:

1) Internet cafes and flash drives?
2) Email 2k Games and ask for a patch CD (w/ cost of course..)
3) If downloading a (most likely small) patch is so not an option for you because Internet is so expensive, how did you make your current post? Surely you could get the patch in the same way.. Did you put out the $500 for this month? I bet the patch will be out before the end. :crazyeye:

Oh.. this is the next statement. I missed it with all the stuff in between - silly me.

1) Civ3 required a lot of patches.. how'd you get those?
2) Eight plus hours a day means you need to get out more.. have a life.. that sort of stuff. Do you remember to eat? I hear that's important. :)

Damn you Sid for starting the 'just one more turn' addiction!

Brutal.. that's like.. sacrilige. Counter productive even. Just down right violent and hurtful for the wall.

Might need to seek anger management and/or a psychologist; this doesn't sound completely sane. (Make sure the psychologist has guards.)

Aside: the pieces are not candy. Please do not ingest the pieces. ;)

Last I checked nukes were considered an atrocity.. nerve stapling too. Given the comparison, I think you got off pretty light, no?

Umm.. so, yeah. Good luck with all that, and um..

...yeah. :nuke:

Wait a minute now... what's with this condescention?

To imply that there is only a problem with his ability to defend a city is uncalled for. The guy said he played a lot of Civ III --I think he'd have figured out by now that there's a need for defenders. There's no need to insult him, is there?

He's having problems with this release. This is unsurprising. The game isn't fit for market. I fail to comprehend how his saying so, and how it pertains to his situation, and that Firaxis has lost him as a customer warrants belittlement and personal attacks. I really can't wrap my head around that.

Circumnavigating workers and invisible units? I don't have a problem believing this, not when I've had BSOD's, CTD's, double-screens, intermittant blank terrain, "file not found" errors popping up in the log, refusal to load saved games... etc., etc...

Whatever, Jeremy. Rock on with your bad self, you and your rapier wit. I'm sure you'll find yourself amusing for eons to come.

Jimmeh: sorry to hear of your troubles with this. I've winged a few things because of this game, too. But I must have embraced my inner masochist or something, because I'm still trying to get it to work.

Later!

I can be a little bugger sometimes. I don't play well with anger, hyperbole, and rant.

You would think, yes. And telling someone they just need to learn something is not an insult. If it were really the case that civ4 cities were smashed no matter the attacker or defense in the city, there would be a big problem.

Perhaps I need nerve staples?

Didn't say I didn't believe this part.. I believe I mentioned that there are known issues to be resolved in a patch.

Neat. First time ever I've been accused of being badass rocker.. (If you knew me, you'd see why I find this so amusing.) :D

Guess I don't need to quote this, but it's become habitual in this thread..
